This is a pretty interesting story. Back in 2004 an exoplanet was discovered by direct imaging around a star 25 light years away. But 10 years later, the planet was gone.
So what they think happened is that two objects orbiting the star collided and we saw the after math of the collision which over the last 10-15 years has slowly disappeared from our view.
