Report: MLB will crack down on pitchers using foreign substances on the ball in 2020

Major League Baseball already messed up one cheating scandal after ignoring the warning signs. Now, the league is trying to get ahead of another instance of rule breaking that’s been heavily rumored around the game.

MLB plans to crack down on pitchers caught using foreign substances on the baseball in 2020, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post. It’s an open secret that many pitchers use pine tar or other concoctions to help get a better grip on the ball.

Trevor Bauer will be happy to hear this. Been a hobby horse of his for ahwile.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

If Ted Turner still owned the braves he'd make them call it an international substance.

MLB baseballs are manufactured in Costa Rica, so by definition the entire ball is a foreign substance.

Baseballs are then rubbed down with mud from a river in the US.

So the domestic product on the foreign substance isn’t good enough resulting in pitchers putting a supplemental foreign substance over the domestic product on the foreign substance.

What if they just used more American mud? Or different American mud? Would that eliminate the need for the illegal supplemental foreign substances?

I wouldn’t mind if it cut down on strikeouts even a little but otherwise I can’t say it effects me much.

I met Gaylord Perry in the 1990's. I was working as a ticket Seller for the Port City Roosters. He got a Batting practice Ball that was hit foul and signed it for me. He said a lot of times he just pretended to put something on the ball.

I guess they're trying to get every team in MLB to hit 200+ HR this year instead of just 24 teams like last year. Unjuice the balls if you care about the integrity of the game. Only 10 teams hit 200 of more HR in 2018 just to show how obvious the juiced balls were last year.
