If you can't be excited about baseball in the Spring there is something wrong. So be excited about the kid.

I don't see Garcia making the team out of spring training. But I think he'll be up pretty quickly if he puts up the kind of numbers at AA that he did in high A. #reds

    Defense - check!
    Power - check!
Can hit a major league fastball in spring training - check!

Can he recognize and lay off the breaking ball? Let's see if he can do that in AAA.

Short of Castillo (who wasn't really homegrown) the Reds really haven't had a prospect rocket up out of nowhere during the past 10 years. This is awesome.

They also seemingly like to take their grand time moving people up through the minors. That might partially be due to the fact they haven’t really had anyone go gangbusters and force the issue.

they promoted Luis straight from AA, could do the same with Jose this season. Although Jose is much younger than Luis was at the time of his promotion.
The television crews left and about 10 reporters remained in the room. That's when Price took his turn doing the talking.
What followed was a five-minute, 34-second expletive-filled tirade. The final tally was 77 uses of the "F" word or a variant and 11 uses of a vulgar term for feces (two bovine, one equine).

Yeah, we pretty much follow this sport hoping for a true phenom to show up on our favorite team. And to have Jiggy bust out like this right at the start of spring training is very cool. Can't wait to see what he does this season.

    Fun story about Castillo.

The first spring Castillo was at camp my father and I were wondering around the back fields at spring training. For those that arent familiar with this basically its like any little league park, there are 4 fields all next to each other. The players and coaches for both teams are just wondering around. I was standing next to Tucker Barnhart like we were both fans just watching a game on time. So you are around major and minor league players, coaches, training staff, even front office staff. The Reds were playing the Dodgers and I believe we went back there for the sole purpose of watching Senzel play.

I wonder over to the one field looking for Senzel (Reds were in the field). I didnt know who was on the mound, but I was standing behind home plate. Guy throws a nasty fastball that just jumps out of his hand, it was electric. I stopped looking for Senzel, now Im just watching this pitcher, everything he is throwing was nasty. I was standing next to a Dodgers coach. I asked who was on the mound. He said "Thats Luis Castillo, that kid is going to be special" I looked around and more and more people were gathering around that field to watch him pitch. Senzel btw was on the other field playing but everyone was much more interested in Castillo.

Sometimes when you watch a player you just know. If i had been posting on this board at that time i would have ran back to my hotel and posted about how amazed i was watching this kid pitch in a minor league spring training game. He was just different. To this day whenever we go to the back fields i have not seen 1 single player that stood out anywhere close to the way Castillo did that day. I doubt I ever will. Ive been going for 10 years still easily the most impressed I have ever been with a player.

That's a neigh impossible jump to the majors. The steps sorta look like this:

    Majors (regular)
    .
    .
    .
    Majors (established)
    .
    .
    Majors (cup of coffee)
    .
    .
    .
    AAA
    .
    .
    AA
    .
    A+
