If Farmer plays over Garcia today, I get your point of view. However, I think it is understandable to not push a kid who hasn't played a real game in almost a year to play two games in one day. Not that he would be too tired, but let him emotionally have the rest of the day off, especially since it went well.

I don't think Garcia will be playing every inning or game over the next 7 years...there are plenty of things to fret about and this is not one of them.

Right, it’s ok to criticize Bell in hindsight for moves that don’t work out, but when they do work out it makes more sense to rely on our obvious internal subjective biases to judge the moves in advance without considering the result.
Completely fair and reasonable approach.

Garcia has shown he is ready defensively, but miles away offensively. I really have to wonder what made them think he was ready to start in the majors. Especially when they clearly don’t think Aquino is.

Small sample size, but he ain’t ready. And yes I fully realize I was screaming for him to get called up and play every day. I’m playing him every day until the season ends, though.
What would you say.....ya do here?

I think it was a combination of hoping it would give them a spark and the fact that Galvis was struggling the past couple weeks at the plate.
At this point, they're probably just hoping he gets his feet wet, learns and can make a legitimate impact as early as sometime next season.
I'm guessing this was/is more of a organizational decision than a Bell one.
Going from A ball to MLB isn't easy, especially given the circumstances of this season and the lack of minor league ABs. He was always going to go through growing pains.

I know the results are not good right now, but the guy still looks very comfortable in the field and at the plate per my amateur eye....and if we were not trying to make a push for a the playoffs, I would consider that almost as important as the results.

I understand the fans wanting to see Garcia. But from the Reds’ perspective they had to see the risk he’d be overmatched. Now he’s on roster, compiling some service time, with no AA ball after a month at Prasco.
Reds were too thin in the infield this year, not much backup, resulting in this call up. Planning! Maybe Garcia will get going, hope so, want him to develop properly.

They aren't pitching to him and he's swinging anyway. He needs to take more pitches and make them pitch to him. He has hit some balls hard when he gets one over the plate. He had some hard hit outs early on and got a little over-anxious and started swinging at everything. If he can fix that...

All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!
I still love this kid

He brings some newness, some youthful enthusiasm to the team. He provides hope in what's been a slog of a season for the Reds.
But he ain't ready. This is what happens when people succumb to hype. A good front office acknowledges they have real prized prospect and then give the public a reasonable timeline. Rushing him up served nobody well. No idea what motivated it. He apparently impressed in spring training, and for all we know he ripped the cover off the ball at Prasco, but exhibition games are no replacement for the real thing. And for the handful of superstars that skipped AA and AAA, Garcia isn't that caliber of player.
Garcia still may become a regular All Star at SS, but the Reds were better off leaving Galvis there and looking for help elsewhere. Right now, Garcia is just another give-away AB, right there with Barnhart at the bottom of the lineup. Of all the seasons and of all the rosters, this isn't the one to roll with the half-baked rookie at SS. The Reds need productive at bats now. They need wins now.
