Re: Make Your 2020 Cincinnati Reds' Win Total Prediction

So, MLB is officially set to suspend spring operations and postpone opening day.

As for this thread in particular, I'd like everyone to continue voting as if the Reds are set to play a full 162. Once the poll closes, and once we find out when the season will actually begin (let's hope it doesn't get so bad that it's canceled) I'll come back in and do some pro-rate math and just convert everyone's votes over to a 130?, 140?, 150?, or whatever game total season it may be.

Re: Make Your 2020 Cincinnati Reds' Win Total Prediction

Well, I guess spring training is over so I'll make my prediction. Last season the Reds pythag was 80-82, even though they won fewer games than that. Over the winter they added approximately 7 wins. Figure some balancing out of the reduced wins from last season and I'll say 89 wins this year if 162 games are played.

That's a .549 winning % in case the season is shortened.

I see I'm with the majority in being optimistic, but not overly optimistic at 86-88.

I'll go with 87-75 as an official projection.

    We need some new options.
I would like to revise my vote to 70 wins and 62 losses.

Re: Make Your 2020 Cincinnati Reds' Win Total Prediction

I went 80-82, but I feel confident for the first time in a while that I've gone too low, and that's at least something. I don't like the rotation as much as the RZ consensus. I like Castillo a lot but think he's not quite to a breakout year yet; I think Gray will regress; Bauer and DeSclafani are uncertain; and Miley's virtually unpredictable. Bullpen is middle of the pack, and the offseason additions are largely redundant, I fear, with the exception of Shogo, if he can play an exceptional CF. They do have more depth than in the past and so should be a little more injury-proof, except at SS. And good health overall could push them up to the high 80's in wins, which might be good enough to squeeze into the playoffs, assuming there are some. So I'm cautiously optimistic.

Poll is closed, thread is locked...I'll post a new poll if/when we get something solid as far as a "new opening date" goes, which I don't expect any of us will know for some time.
