    Second Half Surprises

Doug Gray's article about the dominance of Allan Cerda got me thinking about those prospects who've utterly destroyed their leagues over the past few weeks.

Who are some second half guys who you've been pleasantly surprised by?

Obviously, the list should probably include Elly De La Cruz, who's moved up to low A as a 19-year-old and more than held his own. That 815 OPS might not look that great until you realize he's doing it two years younger than league average while playing many of his games up the middle.

Allan Cerda, a 21-year-old, has moved up to High-A and hit well in a small sample. Before that, he was positively mashing low A. His last 30 days or so have seen him OPS well over 1.000. If Cerda's for real, he's a top 5 talent even in a stacked list like the Reds.

After rehabbing for a month, Rece Hinds has found a ridiculous amount of power in Daytona. He's hitting the ball ridiculously hard as well.

In about the same PAs as Hinds, C Daniel Vellojin has put up a .286/ .436/ .476/ .913 with as many BBs (12) as Ks (12). Lots of patience there. (Is it just me, or do the Reds suddenly have a bunch of interesting catching prospects? Mat Nelson, Mark Kolozvary, Vellojin, Wilfred Astudillo, Andruw Salcedo, even Garrett Wolforth has put up some interesting numbers.)

Michael Siani has finally found some offensive success as well. He's been more than solid, with a 28-day total of .304/ .380/ .522/ .901. That'll play in any league.

Robbie Tenerowicz has been productive for longer than that. His last 90 days have produced an .869 OPS. His August isn't quite as good as his 1.056 OPS July, but it's pretty good regardless-- .273/ .372/ .470/ .841.

These Daytona bats (plus Cerda, who's already there) are gonna really go off in Dayton. Hinds, Hendrick, De La Cruz, hopefully Callihan. Ivan Johnson. McLain if they go slow with him.

Tons of intriguing position players in A/A+, spread all over the diamond too.
