He played with the Reds during the 1973 season. I can remember having a poster that had the faces of many of those 73 Reds and he was one of them. RIP Richie Scheinblum.

I have 8x10s of all the teams in the 70s-81. Have all of the 5 world series teams as well. A friend of mine collected autographs of the 40 team. He even got Hershberger's. Most were just on a plain piece of paper. Some were on cards. Some on photos. He got every one that played in a game that season. Except Dejan and Guise.

Re: Some Obituaries of Recently Deceased Major Leaguers Part Two

The 2021 "Field of Dreams" Team signs a contact-hitting one-time All-Star corner OF who can compete for a starting position or serve as a pinch-hit specialist.

    Transactions
    Signed OF Richie Scheinblum.
Optioned OF Stan Palys to AAA.
Designated 3B/SS Dick Smith for assignment.

    Lineup (8)
    C Del Crandall
    1B Joe Cunningham
    2B Wayne Terwilliger
    3B Ken Reitz
SS Dr. Bobby Brown (primarily a 3B, but also played SS)
LF Richie Scheinblum (primarily a RF, but moves to LF for obvious reasons)
CF Billy Conigliaro (moves to LF vs. LHP)
    RF Henry Aaron

    Bench (7)
    C Mike Sadek
    1B Hal Breeden
    2B/1B/OF Pedro Gonzalez
    2B Chuck Schilling
SS Coot Veal (platoon starter with Brown)
    OF Ed Armbrister
OF Angel Mangual (platoon starter with Scheinblum)

    Rotation (5)
    RHP Don Sutton
    LHP Juan Pizarro
    RHP Stan Williams
    RHP Paul Foytack
    RHP Lew Krausse, Jr.

    Bullpen (5)
LHP Grant Jackson (closer by default; was a good set-up man)
    LHP Rheal Cormier
    LHP Tom Hilgendorf
    RHP Tom Acker
    RHP Wynn Hawkins

The remainder of the 40-man roster:
    RHP Randy Tate
    LHP Willard Hunter
    RHP Jack H. Smith
    LHP Tommy Lasorda
    RHP Duke Simpson
    RHP Frankie De La Cruz

    C Norm Sherry
    C/1B/OF Adrian Garrett
    1B/OF Joe Altobelli
    1B/C Don Gile
    1B Ron Johnson
    2B Don E. Leppert
    3B Mike Bell
    SS/2B Ron Samford
    OF Stan Palys

    Outright Waivers
    LHP John LaRose
    SS Al Naples
    RHP Hy Cohen
    2B Jim Snyder (DFA)
    1B Tom Robson (DFA)
    3B/SS Dick H. Smith (DFA)

    Probable Batting Order vs. RHP:
    Brown ss
    Cunningham 1b
    Aaron rf
    Crandall c
    Conigliaro cf
    Reitz 3b
    Scheinblum lf
    Terwilliger 2b
    <pitcher>

    Probable Batting Order vs. LHP:
    Terwilliger 2b
    Cunningham 1b
    Aaron rf
    Crandall c
    Conigliaro lf
    Reitz 3b
    Mangual cf
    Veal ss
    <pitcher>

The club adds the first switch-hitting position player to its roster (LHP's Grant Jackson and Tom Hilgendorf are the only other switch-hitters in the organization). Richie Scheinblum is a corner OF without much power, but he is a solid contact hitter who has been a productive part-time player and pinch-hit specialist with a career slash line of .263/.343/.352/.695. He was an All-Star in his only season as a full-time starter, when he slashed .300/.383/.418/.800 with 8 HR's and 66 RBI's for the Royals in 1972. Scheinblum was primarily a RF in his career, but will mostly play LF due to the presence of Henry Aaron. He is a better hitter from the left side than the right, and will be the left-handed half of a platoon with Angel Mangual. (Billy Conigliaro, who is comfortable at all three OF positions, will be the CF vs. RHP, and move to LF vs. LHP.) To make room for Scheinblum on the active roster, the club options right-handed hitting corner OF Stan Palys to AAA, and to open up room on the 40-man roster, the club designates 3B/SS Dick Smith for assignment.

The 2021 "Field of Dreams" Team upgrades its infield by signing a veteran 2B to insert immediately into the starting lineup.

    Transactions
    Signed 2B Rennie Stennett.
Optioned INF/OF Pedro Gonzalez to AAA.
Designated 1B/C Don Gile for assignment.
Outrighted 2B Jim Snyder to the minors.

    Lineup (8)
    C Del Crandall
    1B Joe Cunningham
    2B Rennie Stennett
    3B Ken Reitz
SS Dr. Bobby Brown (primarily a 3B, but also played SS)

CF Billy Conigliaro (moves to LF vs. LHP)
    RF Henry Aaron

    Bench (7)

    1B Hal Breeden
    2B Chuck Schilling
    2B Wayne Terwilliger
SS Coot Veal (platoon starter with Brown)

OF Angel Mangual (platoon starter with Scheinblum)

    RHP Randy Tate
    LHP Willard Hunter
    RHP Jack H. Smith
    LHP Tommy Lasorda
    RHP Duke Simpson
    RHP Frankie De La Cruz

    C Norm Sherry
    C/1B/OF Adrian Garrett
    1B/OF Joe Altobelli
    1B Ron Johnson
    2B Don E. Leppert
    2B/1B/OF Pedro Gonzalez
    3B Mike Bell
    SS/2B Ron Samford
    OF Stan Palys

    Outright Waivers
    LHP John LaRose
    SS Al Naples
    RHP Hy Cohen
    2B Jim Snyder
    1B Tom Robson (DFA)
    3B/SS Dick H. Smith (DFA)
    1B/C Don Gile (DFA)

    Probable Batting Order vs. RHP:
    Brown ss

    Crandall c
    Conigliaro lf
    Reitz 3b
    Mangual cf
    Veal ss
    <pitcher>

The club upgrades at 2B by signing a veteran with the ability to put the bat on the ball -- he rarely walks, but he also rarely strikes out. Stennett will take over at 2B, with Wayne Terwilliger moving to the bench. To make room for Stennett on the 25-man roster, the club options utility INF/OF Pedro Gonzalez to AAA. (Though Stennett will be the starter at 2B, he also fills Gonzalez's role as the infielder who can be an emergency fill-in at SS/OF.) To open up a spot on the 40-man roster, the club designates 1B/C Don Gile for assignment. (Gile has big-time power but serious contact and OBP issues, and with four other catchers and four other 1B's on the 40-man roster, he became the obvious "odd man out".) In a procedural move, the club also announced that 2B Jim Snyder had accepted outright assignment to the minors.

Re: Some Obituaries of Recently Deceased Major Leaguers Part Two

Stennett was a very good, underrated player for those 1970's Pirate teams. I remember him as being a very good hitter and a tough out. IIRC, injuries derailed his career or he would have made and even more impact well into the 1980's. RIP Rennie Stennett.

4/7/2021: Tigers RHP Jerry Davie, age 88. https://www.baseball-reference.com/p...avieje01.shtml

I have not found any verification of Davie's death outside of baseball-reference.com -- no obituary or announcement of any kind on the internet. If anyone finds some corroborating evidence, please share it.

The 2021 "Field of Dreams" Team acquires additional pitching depth, signing a pitcher who can start or relieve.

    Transactions
Signed RHP Jerry Davie, and optioned him to AAA.
Designated RHP Frankie De La Cruz for assignment.
Outrighted 1B Tom Robson to the minors.

    Lineup (8)

The club adds organizational depth by signing a right-handed swingman who can start or relieve. Davie was a teammate of RH starter Paul Foytack on the 1959 Tigers. To make room for Davie on the 40-man roster, the club designates RHP Frankie De La Cruz for assignment. In a procedural move, the club announces that 1B Tom Robson has cleared waivers and accepted outright assignment to the minors.
