Freeze's career collapsed after 1961 while Pizzaro remained effective through 1964. H e went 16-8 with 4.4 WAR in 1963. While the 1964 Reds had a deep pitching staff, had they had Pizzaro in 1964 they probably would have won the NL pennant. In '64 he went 19-9 with a 2.56 ERA and 3.6 WAR for the White Sox. A similar contribution for the '64 Reds would probably have made up their one game deficit to the Cards.

2/21/2021...ex Dodger, Yankee, Indian, Twin, Cardinal, & Red Sox: Stan Williams, age 84. One of the Dodger's big 3 starters of Koufax, Drysdale, & Williams in the early 60's.
Was the Reds pitching coach during the Reds "Nasty Boys" era. Wasn't afraid to pitch inside, and taught his students well (especially Dibble).

I had forgotten he was manager of the Giants before he was with the Orioles. Also forgot that he was World Champion manager with the Orioles in 83. RIP Joe Altobelli.
