The 2021 "Field of Dreams" Team signs a two-time All-Star RHP to bolster the rotation, and also signs a another RHP to add to the organizational depth.

    Signed RHP Jim "Mudcat" Grant.
Optioned RHP Lew Krausse, Jr. to AAA.
Designated RHP Jerry Davie for assignment.
Signed RHP Dick Colpaert to a minor-league contract.

The club signs a two-time All-Star RHP who will lengthen the rotation. The addition of Grant (who is projected as the #3 starter in the rotation) gives the club four starters who have made two or more All-Star appearances -- Sutton, Pizarro, Williams, and now Grant. To make room for Grant in the rotation and on the 25-man active roster, the club options RHP Lew Krausse, Jr. to AAA, where he will be the #1 starter. To make room for Grant on the 40-man roster, the club designates RHP Jerry Davie for assignment. In a separate transaction, the club signs RHP Dick Colpaert to a minor-league contract to provide additional organizational pitching depth.
Eric Stratton, Rush Chairman. Damn glad to meet ya.

He had one of the best nicknames in MLB history. Good, steady pitcher in the 60's who was also an uncle of Dominic Brown who played for the Phillies in recent seasons. RIP Mudcat Grant.

Interesting (to me anyway) that both Catfish Hunter and Mudcat Grant had the same real first name: Jim.

    RIP, Mr. Grant.

Sorry to read of this. In the misty early fandom of Roy, I started liking baseball in 1962-63 as a fan of the Indians (we lived in Cleveland at the time). Grant was in the rotation for the Indians. I thought his nickname was cool.

Really sorry to see this. Also loved that nickname. A very good pitcher. RIP Mudcat.

    RIP, Mr. Grant.
My sister-in-law comes from the same area of North Carolina as Hunter and her father coached him when he was a kid. I can still remember her dad telling us in his slow Southern drawl, "we don't call him 'Catfish,' we just call him Ji-im."

BTW, the NY Times had a nice obit for Grant:

Interesting 1968 in-depth profile on Grant from SI vault. Written by Frank Deford.

I have this card. Because I have the complete 70 set. But I have no memory of the card or player. May he RIP.
