Very good relief pitcher for quite a few seasons. IIRC, his best year were with the Yankees. His big moustache is what stands out for me in my memory. Just typical 70's. RIP Dick Tidrow.

Many times I like to look up the last game a player played in to see if they had a positive last time at bat or on the mound. Generally it is not. Tidrow's last game was against the Reds in 1984. The Reds put him into retirement by scoring 4 runs off him in mop up duty. He was released the next day.

The club strengthens its bullpen by signing Dick Tidrow, a veteran right-handed setup man with extensive experience pitching in the pressure cooker known as the Bronx Zoo. Tidrow solidifies the bullpen, as he and Grant Jackson now make a formidable righty/lefty tandem of setup men for closer Mike Marshall, with RHP Joe Beckwith settling into middle relief duty, and LHP Rheal Cormier becoming a middle reliever/lefty specialist. To make room for Tidrow on the 25-man active roster, the club options LHP Tom Hilgendorf to AAA. RHP Randy Tate is designated for assignment to make room for Tidrow on the 40-man roster.

112 at bats .295 hitter at Catcher spot. I would have thought he would have gotten a longer career. Maybe injured? RIP

I was thinking the same thing. His hitting numbers were pretty good in limited playing time. He hit .312 at Class AA Birmingham in 1968, and .327 at Class AAA Iowa in 1969. His .254 average for the A's in 1967 was his lowest batting average at any level for his entire professional career. I would have thought with the 1969 expansion (Royals, Pilots, Expos, and Padres), he would have gotten a look.

He may have gotten a better paying job. Back then back up players basically made the minimum, which wasn't much. Most players took 2nd jobs in the winter to make ends meet. I'm sure a lot of guys quit early to support their family better.

In his obituary, it says that he retired from Keebler after 30 years.

They provided a steady job, I'm sure. When you have a wife and kids to support that means everything.

My wife’s uncle went back to Dayton to work in a machine shop after he exited MLB. Like 1956. He needed to keep on working for a living.

My grandma rented a house in Anderson township on Shangrila to two Reds relievers and their families in i believe 1963 or 1964. It was either a 3 or 4 bedroom place. I assume both of the guys were married and probably had young children. One was Bill Henry. Not sure of the other. Maybe Brosnan, although he left the Reds early in the 63 season.

The club signs a left-handed hitting C/1B who has a career .293 batting average in the minors, and a .295 average with the A's in limited action. To make room for Talton on the 40-man roster, the club designates 3B Mike Bell for assignment. The club also announces that RHP Randy Tate has accepted outright assignment to the minors.
