NCAA has just granted seniors another year of eligibility if they want it. The lower divisions have followed suit. Right now D1 has 11.75 scholarships to give to 27 players. You can have up to 8 walk-ons. Each kid has to get 25% scholarship. This is great for seniors, I get that. They deserve it. However when you have winners you have losers and those losers are seniors in highschool. The NCAA said they will probably expand scholarships (probably 3) and teams can expand their roasters. This doesn't really help highschool seniors. Some who would have gotten a scholarship won't, and those that do will go to a bloated, expanded team. I'm glad my son is only a sophomore. There's a whole cluster of possible scenarios that could happen. A kid that has already signed gets a call that a lot of seniors are coming back, none for you. Or, you go to a team you thought you had a shot of playing some and you don't sniff the field because a starting Senior is returning.
College seniors got screwed over. They deserve another season but high school seniors will be in a bad spot. No easy solutions.
