That timing seems a tad odd

I wonder if guys still on 26 might get full salary and service time and Reds want to get ahead of that train.

wow how exciting lets debate the 26th man vanmeter vs dietrich what a dilemma
I think it might be foolish to option these players so soon. They just burned an option with these guys. If there's a non baseball injury you may want to bring one or both back up and they may stick. If the season's cancelled you have probably burned an option when you didn't have to.

It’s like that scene from “Friday”....”how did you get fired on your day off?”
In general, that's a good point, but in this case, I don't think Tyler Stephenson is going to get called up this year, no matter how many injuries the Reds have.
If the Reds get desperate, they will probably sign a scrap heap catcher.. Or let's say Tyler is doing amazing in the minors, so they call him up.. I guess they figure he is here to stay then, so they aren't worried about burning the options.
DeLeon, I assume he was a journeyman or AAAA guy.. They have so many guys like that in the org, I guess they don't care about options.
I think your point applies to a guy like Van Meter who might get sent to AAA if the season starts today, but would be a first guy to be called up if there's an injury before baseball resumes.. (Let's assume for the sake of example, that Van Meter has options and is on the bubble.. the point is that I don't think DeLeon and Tyler S are bubble guys)
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob
