As a birthplace is a completely different conversation than what Bob Ryan is doing. Especially when you start to use it for individuals who were born somewhere but not raised there. Zion Williamson was born in my hometown but that's about the extent of it. He doesn't claim it and they don't claim him. That's like me saying I've been somewhere when all I did was catch a connecting flight at the local airport.

Legend has it that Roy Rogers was born near where second base at Riverfront would be, but several historians investigated and decided it was a couple of blocks up.

San Francisco would have a place in the argument: MLB Willie Mays or Barry Bonds, NFL Jerry Rice or Joe Montana, NBA Wilt Chamberlain or Rick Barry or Stephen Curry.

Jerry Rice was with both bay area teams. Also, Rickey is probably the right choice, but Joe Morgan was born and raised in Oakland.
