    Red ROY?

Assuming the season begins, who is your Red Rookie of the Year?

    Why?

The easy choice is Shogo Akiyama.

That was a short thread. There doesn't seem to be a competitor for Shogo.

How about Reds 2020 Team MVP?

    Nick Castellanos.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

Not even in my top 10.

    Castellanos
    Suarez
    Winker
    Castillo
    Moustakas
    Gray
    Senzel
Garrett as long as they don't overuse him. If they can't find another reliable lefty, I see Garrett tiring and being poor in the second half. Given the iffy supporting staff in the pen, the shorter season helps him more than any other player on the roster IMO.

Then a big drop to Votto and Disco to round out the top 10.

    Re: Red ROY?

Shogo Akiyama is the most logical choices. There aren't too many other to consider.

Joel Kuhnel, Vladimir Gutierrez, Jose De Leon, Ryan Hendrix, Alex Powers, and Tejay Antone are all possibilities if one of them were to become a dominant bullpen piece.

Tyler Stephenson might end up being more advanced than expected, but there isn't much opportunity for playing time.

What if Mark Payton isn't a mirage?

Outside of that, as crazy as it sounds, perhaps Alfredo Rodriguez in the event that Freddy Galvis misses an extended period of time.

Yeah, it's just going to have to be Akiyama, but Kuhnel is my second guess.

    Re: Red ROY?

My two longshots would be Ty Stephenson if there is an injury to one of the vets or Lodolo. I think Lodolo would have had a better chance to get in the rotation in the second half had there been a full season and an injury. I think he will force his way into the picture very quickly but there is much less time for him to prove he should belong this year. My other longshot would be Hunter Greene. If the Reds were contending I could see him in the pen by August in a role akin to Jordan Hicks with the Cards (with the arm surgery at a different stage of course). Again the shorter season makes this harder as there will be fewer concerns around limiting his innings and fewer chances to prove he should be higher.

I almost said Jose Garcia but didn't for this reason. I can imagine a scenario in which the Reds are in the hunt, Garcia is playing really well at AA, and Galvis gets injured. Would the Reds run out Blandino/Farmer/AlfRod/etc everyday for an extended period of time? They would potentially give Garcia a trial run before trying to trade for a replacement.

Alas, with a shortened season Garcia will have less time to prove himself and Galvis less susceptible to getting hurt...

Service time could become a major issue with a shortened season. How will it be counted? Many clubs may decide to keep their top prospects at AAA for the season, in order to get an extra year.
Eric Stratton, Rush Chairman. Damn glad to meet ya.
