Excellent news! Today is the first day we have been able to say that in a while.

For sure, most of the states today have been moving in the right direction. It's good to see some movement that way and that this is all having some impact.

Actually, it's that more data is being added to the model making the model more accurate and representative to what is happening on the ground. That's how modeling works.

We've all seen numerous graphs and models lately - and usually they are above my head. I trust the experts. This one captures something new that I can comprehend. The third and fourth waves of COVID-19 are going to greatly determine how we get through this disruption to the healthcare industry and all aspects of our lives.

The impact of COVID-19 is going to run longer than most of us are ready to admit, especially for those of us who work in the healthcare industry directly or as partners. Many things we did in the past will not go back to "normal" for some time - if at all. In healthcare marketing and communications, the length and depth of the third wave will likely require us to think in new ways. We need to start preparing for that as soon as we can.

Thanks everybody. My father passed this afternoon. I talked to his wife this afternoon, and she said he'd been complaining that it was taking so long.

An estimated additional 180 - 195 deaths per day, occurring at home, in New York City due to COVID-19 are not being counted in the official figures.

"Early on in this crisis we were able to swab people who died at home, and thus got a coronavirus reading. But those days are long gone. We simply don't have the testing capacity for the large numbers dying at home. Now only those few who had a test confirmation *before* dying are marked as victims of coronavirus on their death certificate. This almost certainly means we are undercounting the total number of victims of this pandemic," said Mark Levine, Chair of New York City Council health committee

So sorry to hear that. I can't even imagine.

    Re: COVID-19 Thread

Kaiser in Portland, who has refused to divulge their Covid-19 numbers, both tested and contracted, of their health workers to the public/media, finally released some numbers in the last hour because they've had to shut down their entire Westside Hospital due to Covid-19 contractions of at least seven of their workers.

The seven Multnomah Health Clinic Pharmacy Departments were finally given masks for the first time today. They had not, and still are not, allowed to wear homemade ones. They just had plastic shields put up at the counters on Friday. Maybe tomorrow they'll be allowed to wear gloves. They can't wear their own and haven't had any to use, yet. The pharmacy is where all the sick pick up their prescriptions, and by law, must have each prescription explained to them by a pharmacist. Every pharmacy has no windows for ventilation or ventilation that pulls air outward.

GENEVA (Reuters) - Authorities must protect nurses and other health workers from harassment and attacks compounding the already heavy toll they are paying in the pandemic, the World Health Organization (WHO) and top nursing officials said on Tuesday. Some 100 medical workers are reported to have died from the disease so far, including many nurses, Howard Catton, ceo of the International Council of Nurses, told a news briefing.
The world’s 28 million nurses, 59% of all health workers, were overstretched before the crisis began, the WHO, the Nursing Now campaign, and Geneva-based council said in the first “State of the World’s Nursing Report”. Some have become targets out of people’s fear of contagion. “We have picked up reports around the world of abuse, harassment of health workers, we had one case of somebody being spat on as well. It is completely unacceptable, reprehensible,” Catton said.
"One problem with people who have no vices is that they're pretty sure to have some annoying virtues."

Not the Kaiser Westside Hospital, but the Pharmacy there, and employees are angry because Kaiser never informed other employees that they had been working with others who had the virus. Unbelievable. The first employee got sick four weeks ago. At least the County is letting employees know if someone comes back positive or negative after they have been tested and sent home.

That is a clear OHSA violation. A major violation by Kaiser, and a repeated violation.

    https://www.oregonlive.com/coronavir...-positive.html

"When the first few Kaiser pharmacy co-workers came down with the virus, the employees speculated the facility would be closed and they would be furloughed. But it never happened. In fact, the employees said, Kaiser has never alerted them to the outbreak. “The only reason we know is because our co-workers who have the virus told us,” one of the employees said. None of the Kaiser pharmacy employees have died as a result of the virus. Most have not been hospitalized. About 80% of COVID-19 sufferers do not get seriously ill. For the other 20%, particularly those with underlying health conditions, it can be more serious and even deadly. The first Kaiser Westside pharmacy employee tried repeatedly to get tested for COVID-19, her three co-workers said. Kaiser resisted until the employee got a fever. The test came back positive and she was sent home. Workers now wonder how many days their co-worker reported to work while contagious. Shortly after that first positive case, employees got permission to wear surgical masks. Though the paper masks provide little protection against the virus, the employees reasoned, at least it would limit the possibility of them transmitting the virus to others. Hours later, Kaiser reversed itself. No masks allowed. Employees still aren’t sure what prompted the change."

My Spouse is a lead Pharmacist for the County, but is not in Management, which seems to be full of stupid people not concerned about the safety of the employees.

Kaiser continues to refuse to report staff cases to other employees or to the public. They are going to be in a lot of trouble after this. Nobody will want to work for them. In an industry that's short of employees before this happened, these workers can leave and go anywhere they want.

Isn't Levine the guy that got people stirred up say saying there will be bodies buried in the parks but he had to walk it back because that is a last resort option but he put it forth as fact?

Along those lines today I was thinking what the plan is to track vaccinations and how they will be given once the COVID vaccine is released. Any older folk who wanted a shingles shot in the past few years knows how hard that was to get due to demand. Granted this is different but once the vaccine is released there will be a rush like non other. And what if someone is anti-vax?

We couldn't find shingles (a two-step process) vaccinations in the last year. Either someone had part A, but not B, or B, but not A, or neither.

Was thinking the same thing. The anti-vaccine parents are sol, as they'll just line up the kids at school and that will be where they get a vaccination. No more exceptions. Thanks to the people not getting their kids vaccinated, old diseases that were under complete control are spreading again.
