Watching the 2nd game, 75 series on FSO

    A few observations.

We need a pitch clock. Even back then, people said the game was slow. But the game pace back then was lightning fast compared to now.

Morgan was a game changer on the base path.

Nice to see Rose not bent so far down at the plate like he was in the mid 80s. And MAN did he hustle down the line to 1st.

Bench was a beast behind the plate. Duh. But yeah, wow.

Salt and pepper Marty given a bit of screen time. Pre Nuxhall.

The old green monster really was a freaking green monster.

Lots of gems in this one. Any I missed?

Giving Boston credit, Evans, Fisk, and the aging Yaz... Quite the force themselves, respectively.

At bats lasted 3 or 4 pitches a batter, today they drag, aggressive at bats are a thing of the past more or less

Batters stayed in the batters box. Pitches in the dirt either got dirt rubbed off by ump or just stayed in play.

Concepcion-Morgan-Geronimo on defense owned up the middle. Rivaled Larkin-Pokey-Cameron. Concepcion was an elegant fielder. I didn’t appreciate him earlier in his career. Griffey was in the middle of every important play and underappreciated.

Fun to watch. Been a long time.

Fair enough. But the pace of play in general, was surprisingly faster. And this was the World Series.

Also, from listening to a few radio games now from the mid 70s, inning breaks were one commercial long. As opposed to the 5 minute affairs we have now. That's probably the real problem.

Yep the pace of play is much faster as pitchers and batters don't have all the routines they go through today. And Bench's hit in the ninth was so critically important as it led to tie the game. The Reds were in real danger of going down 0-2.

Even though I knew they won, down 2-1 with 2 outs and runners on 1st and 3rd, I was like “they do win this game, right?”

Announcing without soliloquies. No ads festooned across the ballpark.

No walk up music. When did that start, anyway?

I often wondered how that series would have turned out had Rice not been injured for Boston.

They ran the bases so well

Boston missed a lot of cut off men and i thought they threw to the wrong base ...a lot.

Wonder if there's a way to tally that up.

The 1975 Reds had a good, not great, pitching staff, ranking 3rd in the NL in team ERA, but their 1975-76 "Great Eight" lineup was arguably the greatest of all time. They did everything so well, at an elite level-running the bases, stealing bases, hitting for power, hitting for average, drawing walks, fielding, throwing. I don't know if the 1975-76 Reds were the greatest team of all time. The 1927, 1936-39 and 1998 Yankees may have been better, the 1929-31 A's may have been better, the 1969-71 Orioles may have been better, but the regular starting lineup, the Great Eight, is probably the greatest MLB lineup ever.
