    RIP John Prine

Just a little while ago. I was really hoping he would pull through. I bet his flag decal still gets him in.
I've been to dinner at Jimmy Buffet's house, and I've eaten it at a homeless shelter. And there's great joy and harrowing terror to be found in both places.

Damn. I was set to see him later this month (before all the cancellations.) A genuis songwriter.

I firmly believe there are two camps of people: Those who consider John Prine one of the best songwriters of all time, and those who haven't heard him.

Never really heard of him. Some guys I enjoy listening to are heartbroken by his passing. Probably one of those guys whose genius is in other people's music.

I saw Ryan Bingham in concert in like 2010 or 2011 and loved it. A buddy of mine told me to listen to John Prine after that and he blew me away.

He had kinda fallen out of my Spotify rotation so to speak, but after he got sick the other day Stephen Colbert posted a song they did together like 2 years ago online and it honestly made me cry.

I'd recommend starting with his self-titled record and then his final record, Tree of Forgiveness. The change in his voice will be weird at first, but it'll give you a great bookend to his career and make you want to dive deep into the rest.

This one hurts. John Prine has just always existed and always would, as far as I was concerned. Kicked cancer to the curb twice and even admitted he liked what the second bout did to his old voice. As far as his music goes, I can't think of a songwriter I like more than Prine. He always said to me through his music, "The world's not fair, so what? Things can go to pot, so what? People can be crappy, so can you. So what. We're all in this together, be nice to one another, it'll be more fun that way."

"Blow up your t.v. throw away your paper
Go to the country, build you a home
Plant a little garden, eat a lot of peaches
Try an find jesus on your own"

"That's the way that the world goes 'round.
You're up one day and the next you're down.
It's half an inch of water and you think you're gonna drown.
That's the way that the world goes 'round."

This is the one I can't get enough of today.

"The moon and stars hang out in bars just talkin'
I still love that picture of us walkin'
Just like that old house we thought was haunted
Summer's end came faster than we wanted

    So come on home..."

I had only heard a smattering of John Prine songs, Dear Abbey and Don’t Bury me were the mai ones, my uncle had that album and played it all the time. Hearing of his death made me dive into his catalogue and got to say I’m a fan. RIP
When I see the 2016 Reds, I see a 100 loss team and no direction.

Pass it on, my friend. Prine was an American treasure. Rodney Crowell posted such a moving tribute to him the day after he died, calling him the real founder of Americana music.
