    All-Couldn’t-Possibly-Be-Reds Team

When it comes to our favorite Reds players, I naturally think of these guys, the faces of the franchise:

    1B Jeff Conine

    2B Julian Javier

    3B Tony Fernandez

    SS Leo Durocher

    C Clint Hurdle

OF Cesar Cedeno, Vince Coleman, Jim Edmonds

Bench Wally Pipp, Vince DiMaggio, Frenchy Bordagaray

P Old Hoss Radbourn, Bo Belinsky, Kent Tekulve, Ryne Duren, Pedro Martinez (the other one)

Good thread. Hurdle wasn't a Catcher. He was an alleged outfielder. I'd put Benito Santiago there.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

Interesting take on the Wally Pipp tale. He was certainly at the end of major league career when he was purchased by the Reds. He had a very good 1st season with them in 1926. We finished second with was an older ballclub, I'd say.

A couple of things about Joel Youngblood: in my mind, I thought he played more seasons for the Reds and not just one. Likewise, for some reason, I always thought that he was with the Reds when he had hits for two different teams on the same day. It wasn't. It was the Mets trading him to the Expos that he did that (hit in day game at Wrigley, then got to Philly and got a hit in the 7th for Montreal). Finally, I did not recall that he returned to the Reds and closed his career here in his final season.

Likewise, with regards to Youngblood, we received Bill Caudill from the Redbirds for Joel, but he never played for us in the majors. I thought for sure he did. Dang, I'm slipping.

caudill like Bill Dawley was a closer that the reds got no utility out of , but at least we had Ben Hayes and Brad lesley and Xavier Hernandez

I would put Jerry Reuss in the rotation.
When I see the 2016 Reds, I see a 100 loss team and no direction.

Hurdle did do a little catching in his career, though not with the Reds. I fudged a little to get a Reds lineup with both Hurdle and Edmonds. The chemistry should be awesome.

    Re: All-Couldn’t-Possibly-Be-Reds Team

Rather than just obscure Reds, I was intrigued by the number of players who are so identified with another team, but must be included in the Reds pantheon. Kind of like how Eric Davis was once a Baltimore Oriole.
