Hey man, I get it. It's the "everybody gets a trophy" generation. Little Joey sure tried super hard, he's a winner in my book. Juice box and a Little Debbie cake anyone?

As for today and ignoring trolls:

As for the game, that was his first ever live NFL snaps. No rookie mini camp. No OTAs. No real training camp. No pre-season games. And drew a vicious top 10 NFL defense with a top 5 defensive line for his first snaps, and at no point did he look overwhelmed, lost, or that the moments were too big for him. He made mistakes, and he made plays, but there was nothing there to be down about. He is CLEARLY what we thought he was. We can win games with him, and, eventually, a lot of games.

Hell, the team even made adjustments in the second half and blocked better.

I am encouraged, but then again, I wasn't expecting the playoff this year, but nothing there makes me think 7 wins is out of reach for this year, which is where I am guessing they will end up.

And the defense was damn good. They can actually tackle again. And cover. Hell, we had actual NFL linebackers. I almost cried.

Burrow gave himself a "D" by the way. Took the blame away from Bullock. Took the blame away from Ross. He's an absolute leader. We're finally going to be fine.
I’m going with 5 wins*. Won’t be a top 3 draft pick team like most were predicting prior to this game but this was a game if they were going to win 6-7 games was a game they should have won.

I’m more optimistic about the future after today but there’s still a long ways to go.

*This is contingent on Burrow finishing the season as starter and not losing him to a season ending injury. If anything can shipwreck this season and Burrows development, it’s our piss poor offensive line with False Start Bobby Hart being the main culprit.

    Millennials ruined Joe Burrow.

Really enjoy your take. Burrow had a lot of positive takeaways that outweighed the negative IMO, and perhaps a bit of humble pie which is good for him too.

    1) The D was better especially against the run, but Tyrod is arguably the least proficient passer in the league. The Chargers could easily end up bottom 5 in offense for the year. I'm not anointing them better just yet. I will say the Linebacker play was much better. This has been missing from the Bengals for longer than I can remember. I am ecstatic about that.

    2) What worried me was the lack of consistent pass rush. A big play in the game was Hubbard's terrible arm tackle that would have been a nice sack on 3rd down. This will probably be lost in the narrative.

    3) Opie Taylor's play calling at the end of the half cost them three points. They lost by 3. Even just one run play would have forced the Chargers to take a timeout. That was terrible coaching especially with a rookie QB in his first game.

    4) Any team is only as good as it's weakest link. Bullock, Hart, and Ross found ways to hurt the team. Each of them has no business starting IMO. That's on the front office. It is frustrating when it's obvious to the fans and nothing gets done. Much like the Reds giving too many at bats to AAA players this year.

    No Geno, no pass rush.

Slice it, dice it, any way you want to rationalize it. It's not on Burrow. For a rookie QB in his first game, he checked all the boxes for me. Truly a winner. His whole life. Now a Bengal.

Go back 30 years. They all have the same expressions when it happens. Love me some Joe Burrow. As a Bengals fan, I feel bad for him in the same way I feel bad for anyone else trapped in my enabler self help Bengals group.

Same exact facial expressions, depending on the stage. 40 years and counting.

Watching Burrow today. Like watching some kid get his teeth kicked in, and the disappointment, reminding you of watching his old man get the same look on his face after the same result 30 years ago.

It's sad. And eerie. But mostly sad, in an odd sort of way.

I'm not some troll though. Might as well put Bengals 101 on ignore while cramming for the final. Go for it. If that's what thrills you. 5 days til the Brownies.
