Without a doubt, complete games are a thing of the past. But good pitchers still pitch past the 5 inning.
I do think teams tried limiting starters to 5 innings for a bit last year, but realized it was putting too much of a strain on the pen. There just aren’t enough good relievers to do that every game.

It's still a good play if you can make it 70%+ of the time, which fast players can do. Adalberto Mondesi swipes bases at an 84% clip. The problem is the game did go bigger and those guys are slow. I used to make fun of Sean Casey for being one of the naturally slowest humans I'd ever seen play a pro sport. Doubt I'd even notice him in today's game. You can time half the league to 1st with a sundial.

Why would they take a perfectly solid 1B and stick him at DH in favor of one guy who's never played the infield and another who had stone hands at 3B? Seriously, why would you do that? They've got a capable defensive 1B. It's one of the things Votto gives you. What the DH allows them to do is not to play two farcically bad corner OFs at the same time. Just make one of the two guys with no defensive skills play DH.

The reason would be because Votto's 36 and had a down year last season. I am not sure it's correct, but the thinking is that giving Votto more time to focus on hitting, would make him a better hitter, and that would make up for having a weaker defense at first base. I'm not saying I agree with this, but I am guessing that is the argument.
