Right now, the plan seems to be to play the majority of games against NL and AL Central teams.
At first blush, that would seem to help the Reds, as Kansas City, Detroit, and Pittsburgh all project to be among the worst five or six teams in the game. Both Cleveland and Minnesota project to be better than Cincinnati, with the Twins projecting to be among the best teams in baseball.
Minnesota and Chicago (White Sox) have pitchers' parks (relatively speaking), while Cleveland, Detroit, and Kansas City are hitters' havens. (Particularly Detroit.) This is similar to National League Central park factors, fwiw.
Minnesota's team offense was among the best in the league last season, but the rest of the AL Central were below average (according to wRC+). In terms of pitching, the Reds' staff will have to compete with two others whose fWAR were superior-- the Indians and the Twins. The White Sox, Tigers, and Royals were less successful and project to be below average this season as well.
I certainly would prefer this to the Houston/ LA league out west (although the west has lots more weak sisters) or the Yankee/ Philly/ Washington/ Tampa slugfest on the east coast.
What other factors may make this idea beneficial for the Reds?
What may be some stumbling blocks or issues not discussed?
