This will be no different. In fact, the moment fans are allowed back in stadiums and a vaccine exists they'll flock to the games.

And the value of a team is not going to drop due to no baseball this year, there is still only 30 MLB teams - it's a monopoly.
Probably all true - but this is another example of how baseball continues to fall behind the NFL and NBA.

The NFL handled this off-season brilliantly - the draft became a major event, then the introduction of the new schedule.

The NBA is set up for a dynamite return, immediately going into a playoff style schedule among the better teams.

And MLB is debating whether high-paid players will take less, and whether to play fewer games to avoid losing owners’ money. It’s just not a good look by comparison.

With all other sports shut down, the NFL draft was a major big deal this year.

And MLB isn’t falling behind the NBA either.

But the NFL played its draft beautifully this year and got record ratings. Because of the virus, the league and prospects couldn’t congregate in Las Vegas as planned. But with everyone working from home, the NFL promoted and produced its draft to take full advantage of the tough situation.

Similarly the NBA - which promotes itself better than MLB - has a plan that will be exciting and, I’m sure, to its advantage. Playoff type atmosphere, and reached in a cooperative manner during a crisis period.

Baseball players and owners will likely reach some sort of deal and have some sort of season. But they haven’t risen to the difficult moment and it wouldn’t be surprising if some fans simply tune them out in favor of other sports and entertainment sources.

Just because it survived 94 doesn't mean it will survive this time. This is a different world. There is a lot more to do then there was back then. The NBA is as popular as ever, major league soccer as well, hockey is more entertaining, younger generations play video games. If they don't play this year revenue will get killed. I personally will never spend another nickel toward MLB or will watch another pitch. You are completely underestimating what will happen to baseball. I think this is the mistakes owners and players are making, and they are gonna pay dearly. Imagine if you are a free agent after this year, they better get something done or it will get ugly.

Personally, I'd be thrilled if baseball took a popularity hit one way or another. If it brings the absurd ticket prices down to a more manageable level, great!

Good memory. It was ruled a passed ball rather than a steal according to box score. Chacon later played for the expansion Mets. He died in 1992.

Not saying he’s the guy in the photo.
