The definition of hard nosed guard...they talked at length about him on the radio. He was in studio when Kobe went for 81, he said back when he played if a guy got close to 30 he was gonna bleed...didn’t even crack a smile saying it. Was also man enough to admit he handled Darren Williams wrong....good player, good coach.

    Re: RIP Jerry Sloan

The Jazz were the first team I was really a fan of growing up in Utah as a young kid. It was so shocking when he suddenly retired, he'd been the only coach of the team I had cheered for basically my entire life. I'm still a Jazz fan, but even 10 years later, it still feels different without him there. Really wish he could have gotten to the top of the mountain once, but even then just being competitive and relevant most of the time in sports is hard and he was able to accomplish that over a very long period of time. Thanks Coach, rest easy.

Condolences to all of his fans and family.

Watched him play in person for the Bulls many times in the early '70's. Friends and I would sneak into 25 games a year back then (pre-Walton days), as we were on the poorest side of town and could barely scrape up the $2 general admission between 7 of us for one ticket. Would get there three, four hours before game time, shoot around on the court sometime, and be the last to leave the building, sometimes shooting around after. Sat anywhere we wanted, including courtside (if you had balls enough to do it). Would listen to every conversation of the players during games on the court. An incredible experience for a middle-schooler.

Jazz/Blazer playoff games were as good as it gets.

You can blame MJ for that. If it wasn't for him, Sloan would have had at least one title, and probably a few more

Jerry was quite the college player. IIRC he had accepted a coaching job at his alma mater(Evansville) but withdrew a few days later. It was the same year that the Aces basketball team was lost in a plane crash.

    RIP Coach...you will be missed.
