Reds select ohio St Edwards HS guy in 4th round- Mac Wainwrght

MLB says he is an OF

Here is a tweet with him swinging:

A big winner @ #Super60 was OF Mackenzie Wainwright (OH).

    6.94/104 exit/91 OF

I keep watching this swing over & over: efficient movements w/ elite force outputs. Stellar

    Re: Day 2 MLB Draft

On ESPN they had an interesting panel discussion. They said teams and draft eligible players are trying to out leverage each other. Teams are telling players take our deal or if undrafted can only make $20,000. The Player reps saying yes but we can go back to School with the extra year. The High Schoolers saying pay us or going to School. The teams saying yes but with returning Juniors and Seniors not as much playing time at School. They discussed tommy Mace from Florida the former Reds pick. It sounds like he wants $4 million or go back to School.

Then he’s going back to school. No one could give him $4M unless he was drafted early in the first round. And that wasn’t going to happen.

That's interesting. Makes some sense. He get to be Florida's Friday night pitcher next season (which he was this year before it stopped). Gonna be a lot of talent in the college ranks the next few years.

Mace will be welcomed back to Gainesville, along with Leftwich. One more year with O’Sullivan would probably do him a lot of good.

Mace has already announced he’s returning to Florida. Great news for me as a Gator fan, and hopefully it pays off for him.

    Re: Day 2 MLB Draft

    Joe Boyle

    RHP, Notre Dame

    From MLB:

Though he could have factored into the top three rounds as a Kentucky high schooler in 2017, Boyle opted out of the Draft because he was set on attending Notre Dame. He had trouble throwing strikes in his first two seasons with the Fighting Irish and totaled just 27 2/3 innings as a result. He did make progress in the Cape Cod League last summer, giving some hope that he can harness his electric stuff, but he walked 13 batters in 8 1/3 innings during the shortened 2020 college season. Boyle has the best arm strength in the 2020 Draft. His fastball reached 102 mph in the Northwoods League during the summer of 2018 and hit 101 at the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament and on the Cape in 2019. He can operate in the upper 90s for several innings at a time while getting riding action on his heater. Boyle also can overpower hitters with an upper-80s slider but has yet to show much of a third pitch. His huge 6-foot-7 frame adds to his intimidation factor yet he has difficulty keeping all his long levers in sync and locating his pitches where he wants. He's a decent athlete, so there's optimism that he can continue to improve when he gets more regular innings in pro ball.

Sounds like a great fit for the organization's new philosophy. Huge velocity, and his development took off once they went to high-tech analysis of his pitches.
