    Reds 2020-2021 International Signing Period

Here's MLB Pipeline's top international prospects expected to sign when the new signing period starts in July

The Reds are expected to sign Ariel Almonte out of this group.

In addition, #1 prospect Yoelqui Cespedes, younger brother of Yoenis and #20 prospect Norge Vera, have no favorite signing team listed.

Re: Reds 2020-2021 International Signing Period

You read the MLB write-up on Almonte:

The teenager is a bat-first corner outfielder who projects to be a plus hitter with plus power potential if he continues to develop at a normal pace. Almonte has a chance to be a middle-of-the-order slugger who can drive in runs in the big leagues one day. https://www.mlb.com/prospects/intern...almonte-694200
Then compare to Hendrickson and Wainwright, and even Reece Hinds and Tyler Callahan from last year's draft, and you see a type starting to materialize. The current braintrust wants guys that can hit the baseball and hit it hard. They'll figure everything else down the road.

In the write-up about Almonte, they said he's particularly good at driving the ball to left-center. The ability to drive the ball to the opposite field also happens to be one of the most predictive thing about power potential down the road.

It will be interesting to see how the coronavirus affects international bonuses and numbers (if at all).

Cincinnati Reds 2020-21 International Signing Preview

The Reds' first full signing class under international scouting director Trey Hendricks is shaping up to be a deep, balanced signing class with a diverse mix of skill sets.

The biggest bonuses are expected to go to a pair of Dominican outfielders, Malvin Valdez and Ariel Almonte. Valdez has some rawness to his game as he learns to recognize spin and make more frequent contact in games, but he's a tool shed with premium athleticism. He's at least a plus runner with good range in center field and the raw power to drive the ball out of the park during batting practice. He's likely to sign for near $2 million.

Interesting top 10 Dominican prospect list I found on youtube. Second number is their International ranking per MLB.com. MLB has 15 Dominicans in their top 30 BTW.

LOS MEJORES PROSPECTO DOMINICANO PARA JULIO 2 2020
    1 - Amando Cruz ( Washington Nationals) 5
2- Manuel Beltre ( Toronto Blue Jays) 24
    3 - Pedro Pineda ( Oakland Atléticos) 13
    4- Cristian Hernandez ( CUBS) 6
    5 - Víctor Acosta ( San Diego Padres) 19
    6 - Cristian Santana ( Detroit Tigers) 14
    7 - Shalin Polanco ( Pirates) 11
    8 - Denser Guzman ( Anaheim Angels) 29
9- Yemal Flores ( Phillies) NR
10 - Malvin Valdez ( Cincinnati Reds) NR

Also says Valdez DOB is Oct 14, 2003. So he just turned 17 a couple months ago

    Relatively large signing bonuses.

Based on nothing else, that would seem to presage good news.

Brayan Rijo is a "quick twitch" high bat speed CF with a chance to go 20/20 but a questionable hit tool. (Sounds familiar.)

Jorge is a small-framed SS with good speed and solid defensive tools.
