    Hank Aaron's Nemesis

Nice article in The Athletic, part of a series about "the game’s greatest players and the less-heralded foes who got the best of them again." This article is about one-time Reds pitcher Jim Brosnan who pitched very well against Hank Aaron. The stats are recounted in the article and, frankly, they're breathtaking. But more so, the article talks about Brosnan career as a pitcher, but also as a writer. His two first person accounts of two seasons preceded Jim Bouton's class Ball Four. If you younger RZers have never read Brosnan's two books, treat yourself to reading them.

I've just put in a request to the Cincinnati library to add both of Brosnan's tiltles, The Long Season and Pennant Race, in their eBooks category. Stay tuned. The Long Season is based on the 1959 season and Pennant Race is about the Reds 1961 season.

Never heard of either book, but they are on the way here now. Thanks.

Scott Sullivan vs. Jeff Bagwell should definitely be mentioned if the series continues.

Did not know about that matchup with Aaron and I'm a huge Brosnan fan . As I've posted before I do remember that Bill Henry really had Matthews #. Brosnan and Henry were such a big part of those 61 champs. Brosnan's books are great reading.
