Re: Excellent recap of all the new rules and procedures

A player or coach who comes within 6 feet of an umpire to argue a call may be suspended. (Pete Abraham)
Players or coaches who come within 6 feet of each other or umpires to fight or argue calls will be immediately ejected. (Joel Sherman)

I wonder how this will be enforced. Will there be situations where there is a debate over whether it's 5 ft 11 inches or 6 feet?

Seems like it will be a very tame season in regards to fighting, which will certainly be interesting if there is a game with more than a couple guys hit by pitches.

And we'll be seeing all the players wearing their masks in the dugout.

Say what you want but this is going to be possibly the most memorable baseball season of all time.

I wonder if all of these unique rules will continue if covid cases drop, even though they are rising from what we are told.

Very eager to hear how attendance will be handled.

The last 5 years us Reds fans have been great at social distancing with all of the empty seats. In years past if you got cheap seats up high you were almost guranteed 6 feet between your group and the next. Too bad this year when there seemed to be real hope for success we'll be forced to social distance there. I can't imagine any way at all they allow full sellouts, even though I also suspect MLB would see a ton if they allowed it.

Yeah some people are afraid to be in a crowd, but many others aren't. And because there will still be a bunch of pools and other summer activities closed, I bet even casual fans would love to come out just for some sense of normalcy.

But in the end a huge hooray for baseball. Let's go take advantage and win our 1st WS in 30 years baby!

Will umpires who come within six feet of players to slap them on the back be ejected? Asking for a friend. Joe West.

Can you imagine if a Pitcher got all 30 outs with a perfect game except for the runner assigned to second base in the 10th Inning? Would it be a perfect game with an astrick since the runner was not allowed by the Pitcher?

It nearly happened in an independent league game last year.

In theory you could pitch a perfect game and lose 1-0 if they bunt that runner over to 3rd and then bring him home with a sac fly.

Yes. In the independent league game, the pitcher threw a perfect game for nine innings. They took him out for the 10th. The runner on second was sacrificed to third. A single through the drawn-in in field won the game. So close.

    Few thoughts...

This would be the perfect year to use the Robo Ump for player and Ump safety to call balls and strikes . Surprised its not part of this all. It seems like a no brainer for safety to me.

Also every other day Covid testing is very aggressive.

Anyone not playing must wear a mask in the dugout and bullpen..is gonna look really weird

I would assume in this extreme example, that yes, since the term "perfect game" means "pitcher allowed no baserunners." In that case, the baserunner was allowed by rule, not by the pitcher.

So we will play the AL central teams Indians, White Sox, Royals, Twins, Tigers and NL Central Cardinals, Cubs, Pirates, Brewers this year. None of those teams are in the top 6 of favorites to win the WS this year. We will also play 3 of the worst 6 teams in the league by those odds as well. That seems to give the NL and AL central a big advantage to win the Wild Card this year.

"Players can opt out of the season whether they are at high risk for COVID-19 or not. Players who live with a person at high risk for COVID-19 will also be allowed to opt out of the season. Players who are high risk or who live with someone high risk will still be paid and accrue service time. Those who are not high risk will not be paid. (Nightingale)"

This part is incorrect and Nightengale clarified on Twitter that only players can opt out that are high-risk not those that live with someone that is high-risk or pregnant for that matter.

Perfect games are rare. But this situation points out the ridiculousness of this rule. A bunt and a fly ball score a player who didn’t earn his way on, and to win a game?!? That seems basically against the premise of the entire game. If they want to try a version of the rule in the MLB, start the runner at first so, in most situations a ball in play that isn’t an out will be needed to win the game.

Has anyone heard how Spring Training 2.0 is going to happen? I heard they would take place in home stadiums. Does that mean just intersquad games/workouts? Will any of this be on TV?
