Dumb question, but suppose there is a runner on first.
If the players have to stay 6 feet away from each other, how are pick off throws going to work? How is the player even allowed to stand on first base and be held?
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob

Watch some KBO baseball, you'll get a sense of how it's handled. There is no social distancing per se, coaches and umps wear masks, but all are tested daily so they have that going for them

I don't think that's part of the precautions.

If they want to try a version of the rule in the MLB, start the runner at first so, in most situations a ball in play that isn’t an out will be needed to win the game.
I hate the rule, but the risk of losing a perfect game because of it is nil. In the new mamby, pamby baseball world, even a guy with a perfect game gets taken out after the 6th so he doesn't have to face guys the third time through the order. Teams would rather use the crappy AAAA reliever who pitches the middle innings instead.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

Interesting I found this on MLB.com and hadn't seen it mentioned before, "Players and other team personnel not participating in the game will be sitting in the stands, at least six feet apart."

    https://www.mlb.com/news/faq-for-2020-baseball-season

Also." A ball will be thrown out once it has been touched by multiple players." Umm...that's like every pitch then?

Or at least start the inning with 1 out (if you can use an automatic runner, then an automatic out should be acceptable as well. That stops the “2 Intentional outs wins a game” sc3nario

What is the thinking behind starting a runner at second? I know its to shorten the game but why?

The longer you are around a large group of people even with social distancing the higher your chance of contracting disease. I work at a hospital with active Covid cases and believe me I get the hell out of there as soon as I can.

Sorry if I worded poorly. Wasn’t trying to speak to the risk of losing perfect games. Was speaking to how dumb it’d be to be able to win without getting a hit or on base otherwise.
