Interesting. Hadn't thought about guys that might just call it a career. Wonder if we will see more of these for utility type infielders and 5th outfielders.

Being in Arizona probably played a part in that. Phoenix is one of the worst hotspots in America right now.

1) Holy cow. $15 million for Mike Leake?
2) He's probably passing on 5.5 Mill.

Even with 94 million career earnings that's nothing to sneeze at.

Depends if it is a personal health issue, because if it is, he gets paid for sitting at home watching on TV. If it is family issue, then he may be passing on the $5.55 million.

We will know pretty soon the extent as everyone has to show up and be tested in the next 2 days.

And the managerial/coaching staffs are the ones of real concern as a HIGH percentage of them are in the high risk category

The one thing that could stall the season the quickest, is not for players to catch it and then have to quarantine and then come back. It is if one of the managers or coaches gets infected, that is up there in years, and ends up in the ICU on a ventilator. Not sure how you play through that.

Apparently Leake has a father who is in poor health. Paralyzed from an accident which puts you at risk for respiratory infections. It's part of the reason he was willing to sign for less with Arizona where his parents live although he ultimately signed with the Cardinals and was ironically was later traded there. Kudos to Mike for protecting his family.

Leake is still under the contract he signed in 2016 with Cards. He negotiated with DBacks but chose the Cards.

Ahh ya my bad. I just skimmed the article and saw the part of him willing to take less with Arizona. Corrected! Still a strong move by Leake, who i haven't always been a fan of to be honest.
