Teams can play a 3 game preseason

    Per Rosenthal

MLB told clubs today they will be permitted to schedule up to three exhibition games before the end of Spring Training 2.0. If a club is not located near any potential opponents, it can schedule games against its initial regular-season opponent in days leading to Opening Day.

Re: Teams can play a 3 game preseason

Looking at a map.... my first thought was Cleveland. Both in Ohio and both train in Az. But depending on how fanatic they are about 'being close', Cleveland is super close to Detroit. If you look at all the close teams (Cubs/WSox, Mets/Yankees, Tribe/Tigers. Marlins/Rays, etc.), Cincinnati kind of gets left out. So does Atlanta.

I could make an argument for them. Quick one hour jaunt on Delta.

I just don't want to have the exhibition series against the team we'll have the actual opener with. It takes away from it.

I agree that would kind of suck...

Dick Williams, president of baseball operations for the Cincinnati Reds, said MLB is going to charter jets to bring in players from the Dominican Republic, and that teams are allowed to play a small number of exhibition games in July — although he doubts anybody will.

DW's comments that Ron quoted above re-affirm my thoughts that the benefits of getting the competitive juices flowing against another team just don't outweigh the risk of infection.

Let's hope all MLB players and their families stay safe.

Surprises me that they would pass on the games.

I think the added risk outweighs any benefits.

cleveland and detroit are not "super close." they are 2 hours and 38 minutes apart in driving distance. cleveland and cincinnati are separated by 3 hours and 41 minutes. so, it's just an hour difference.

I "eyeballed" it. Thanks. Guess the trek around the lake hurts.

Why have a season at all then? Ridiculous.

I'd rather go ahead and get in as many games that count as possible. Make every at bat count.
