    Re: Best 80s Song

In a discussion of the 1980s, Ohio had Devo and Ohio Players in their prime.
Devo - Ton o’ Luv, That’s good, beautiful world ( and those hats...)
Ohio Players - Skin tight, love rollercoaster ( and those album covers...)

The full lyrics really spell things out: The singer and his friend have had life beat them over the head unrelentingly but he still has hope that, even if for just one day, that he will get to live the way he wants to and he wants his friend there by his side to partake in and witness it.

If the stack is high against you
    And the hammer's coming down
And the time that's yours lies heavy in your hands
    Oh my sentimental friend
The fast much reach an end

Lying face down on the cold stone
And they give their all to you
But their all is slipping through your hands
    Oh my sentimental friend
    Your time will come again

One day where I didn't die a thousand times
Where I could satisfy this life of mine
    One small day
One day where every hour could be a joy to me
And live a life the way it's meant to be
    One small day

How many times has it turned against you
How many times will they walk away
How many times have you let depression win the fight
    Oh my sentimental friend
    We'll walk as one again

One day where I didn't die a thousand times
Where I could satisfy this life of mine
    One small day
One day where every hour could be a joy to me
And live a life the way it's meant to be
    One small day

How many times has it turned against you
How many times will they walk away

One day where I didn't die a thousand times
Where I could satisfy this life of mine
One day where every hour could be a joy to me
And live a life the way it's meant to be

One day where I wouldn't feel my senses die
Where nothing made me hang my head and cry
One day where I could see myself as others do
Where I could feel the strength of love at hand

One day where I didn't die a thousand times
Where I could satisfy this life of mine
One day where every hour could by a joy to me
And live a life the way it's meant to be

Disintegration was released May 2, 1989.

Therefore the correct answer is Fascination Street.

???? So I was a big Metallica fan. I had no idea what this song was until I youtubed it. I wouldn't even put it on the top half of the songs on that album, Ride the Lightening was just that good of an album.

    Great song!

( I am trying not to picture myself dancing to that in the 1980’s )

At the beginning of August of 1983, I gave my car to a friend, had a 36-hour road-trip around the State with two others, then packed what I could in a suitcase, along with a pair of cowboy boots (gave them to the first ride I got as it was too much to carry, but they were a really nice pair), my basketball (dropped it off in a front yard as it was too much to carry, but it shows how important playing basketball was to me), a white leisure-suit (like in "Sharped Dress Man") in a suit-bag, and $60 in my pocket and hitch-hiked to the Silicon Valley from Salem, Oregon with my computer programming education to try to get into Berkeley. A year earlier I had visited their new 10-story Computer Science Department taking a week-long road-trip down there (all paid for with hash sales). I converted half of it to weed along the way as $30 in weed was always worth more than $30 in cash if you were homeless trying to establish a footing somewhere. Was going to hit Monterey, where I could sleep on the beach, but after passing along Ygnacio Valley Drive at night and seeing the 100K+ people of East Contra Costa County, I decided my chances were better there for finding immediate employment and asked my lift if he'd turn around and go back there about 15 minutes after we had passed it.

First thing I did the next morning was go to SFX and get a locker where I could put my suit. My bag, I was able to place behind a counter at a greyhound terminal in Concord with the promise that I'd pick it up the next day. Waiting at a bus stop at the airport to head into the City I met a gal who was just starting her job as Hotel Manager of a high-rise in San Fran. Spent my first evening with her, around town and had a great 8th Story view of all of the South Bay, while smoking a joint. 36 hours earlier I was in Salem. Life is what you make of it. That song, "Sharp Dressed Man" was all about attitude, and attitude is everything in this world.

Certainly the most impactual, though "Purple Rain" had quite an impact, too.
