Reds’ 60-man player pool for 2020

Might want to use this to keep track of Reds’ decisions on 60-man player pool. That pool must be finalized tomorrow, Sunday June 28, at 4pm. If Reds want to drop a player, this could be the time.

Some of the 60 will be invited to MLB training camp. The others will go to the Alternative Training Site. Seems (not totally clear) that teams can keep some non-60 day guys in training camp until the cut down.

Of course, the 60-man player pool can be changed over the season with adds and subtractions.

As I understand it, you can subtract players from the pool, but it would require you release them completely.

If they're subtracted, they're gone for good.

(Ditto for additions. If they're added, they're added for the season.)

For that reason, you may see a smart team keep a spot open.

It'd be a cheap way to add talent without sacrificing anything.

MLBTR now has a section on all these rules. Here’s some of the fine points.

    1. If you drop a guy from the 60, he can’t return to the 60 this season. You don’t necessarily lose the guy forever, but he’s off your 60 for the season.

    2. A forty man roster guy need not be on the 60. Different than I thought.

    3. Only the 60 guys in the pool can participate in camp. (Not sure if this includes the Alternative Training Site.)

    4. Normal option rules apply, if you come up to the active roster and are sent back an option may be used. If you’re sent back you must stay off the active roster for 10 days unless an injury situation.

    5. Only 60-man player pool guys can be traded at the 8/31 deadline. Every player acquired in those trades must stay in new team’s 60-man pool.

I don't believe that part is true. People added to the 60 can be dropped. But once dropped can not come back. I assume once a guy is dropped for Team X's 60 he can still be added to another teams 60.

So the Reds have a 40 man roster and 20 Non-Roster Invitees listed on the roster. I'm sure there will be a few adds and deletions, but I can't imagine many upgrades will be available.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

Keep in mind Reds can add to 60 any minor leaguers under contract - whether or not in big league camp this spring.

They had many relievers in camp, but I wonder if they’ll be looking for a few more starters just in case. Even guys currently in the system, if there’s nothing much out there to acquire.

Guessing Vlad Gutierrez won't make the pool this year.

    No Dietrich. No Hunter Greene.

Wow Schebler, Aquino and Jankowski don't even make the early major league pool. That's a good sign for Payton.

Gotta imagine all of the position players make it. No need for more than 14 pitchers.

I bet Votto has a good chance of making the team.

I'm shocked about Aquino. I wonder what went into the decision making.

And Schebler and Jankowski are out of options. So if they get waived, they could be claimed and lost to the 60.

They could send out the 4 on-roster guys and option Kuhnel and there's an easy 30 man roster.
