Bowden picks Reds to win Central

Athletic has an article by Bowden where he picks 5 teams that the 60 game season helps. Reds were one and in fact he picks Reds to win division.

    Strengths:

    Top rotation in Central
    Deep Bullpen
    Improved Offense

The reason the strange season helps Reds, is they can take extra bat and put it at DH.

Plesac had the Reds as a sleeper to win the world series. Gave the same reasons essentially.

Let's hope our team is really good at washing hands, wearing masks and standing 6 ft apart, so we don't lose someone for 14 games. Avoid COVID-19 is now a competitive advantage in this 60 game season!

Desclafani will have to be above .500, then I would say they could win.

    Cincy sports are funny

When the pre determined villains speak poorly of the perpetual losing franchises, fans get so emotional and upset. And immediately point out how stupid the specific media person/network is. (Bowden, King, Florio ESPN, etc)

But when they say something positive about the Reds or Bengals, , it’s a feel good, correct and astute thought.

The bigger challenge is the Clubhouse leaders convincing the younger players to not go out after games which is gonna be hard. Being in the midwest though which is not currently a hotspot could be an advantage vs being in the south or west.

I mean, these are all adults.

Who in the Reds clubhouse is going to have the power to tell other adults not to go out and get beers if they want to?

    Votto? Tucker?

    Moose. Castellanos. Gray. Iglesias.

Lots of veterans on that team, and the kids seem to be pretty business-like as well.

Sure why not. Suarez too. I think if you sit the younger guys down and let them know that literally one player being reckless and contracting Covid could literally devastate the team's chances at the playoffs some would take heed. Not everyone is gonna listen but even if half the players curtail their activities it gives you an advantage. Same thing if half of people wear masks versus none.

I think adhering to a strict business approach for 2.5 months is doable, but I also think the idea of veteran leadership is overvalued and sorta BS.

That being said - I am the biggest anti 'back to the well' for an ex player fan, but Puig is still out there as a FA.

With the expanded rosters, and the money saved on DD - There has to be a team who will want to throw 2-3M out there to him for some insurance and late inning speed, arm, bat etc.

    Weird

I also feel like management is doing a great job of setting the tone only allowing 35 guys to be training in GABP. Keep the circle as tight as possible and take this thing seriously. The Reds playoff chances haven't been better since the 2014 All-Star Break.
