Reds Begin Roster Moves for 60 Game Season

Reds could use more LH power, so I disagree.

The final roster is interesting but keep in mind - the last add-ones are intended to depart as rosters sharing to 26 men. So we basically know the core team.

It’s Votto, Moose, Galvis and Suarez in infield with VM. Castellanos, Senzel, Winker, Ervin, and Shogo in OF. It’s Casali and Barnhart at C. It’s Farmer as C/IF. Thirteen position guys.

On the mound, it’s five starters, five main relievers, Mahle, Sims, and Reed. 13 pitchers.

Around the fringes you have Jones, maybe Raley, a sixth OF, a utility infielder. Maybe an extra pinch hitter, perhaps Davidson. But all these last guys are likely intended to be sent out as rosters shrink.

Sure, in a silo, more LH power is a good thing, but a third LH power bat over potentially a first RH power bat doesn't make sense to me.

My assumption is he will start against lefties, so it would be nice to have another RH bat off the bench in those situations. I get that Farmer could hypothetically fill that role, but I really believe Bell will want to hold him back for the flexibility he allows later.

I think with the likely make-up of this bench, it makes sense to have a RH hitter over a LH hitter. The Reds already have VanMeter and Payton as LH bats, and would only have Ervin if he didn't start against righties.

We just wildly disagree on Van Meter and Payton. Assuming Payton even makes the team. This LH hitting bench would frighten nobody.
