again agree with doug dirt, there were infinite immoral calculations that went on in rose's head when he was manager that had nothing to do with winning the game,, every other manager was trying to win,, between his profligate debauchery and moronic habits,, who knows how many games were lost or risked needlessly
It would be like me reading an x ray wrong just to get a follow up study,, it is so outside the range of professional that it is criminal in any other enterprise
Absolutely not. He went rogue, was caught and punished. The game's integrity would have been damaged if they turned a blind eye to it and it was discovered outside of MLB after the fact. It told me that MLB isn't playing around. That they will do anything to weed out any kind of cheating, game fixing or conflict of interest.
I trust MLB more because of it. You know what I don't trust? The NFL with their refs acting like keystone cops making blatantly ridiculous calls to turn games around that seem to always favor the haves like the Steelers, Pats and Packers. What I don't trust is the NBA who had officials caught and confess to making calls to sway a game more favorably to their wallets.
Now, MLB lost some of that integrity when they allowed steroid use to run rampant just so they could have records broken every year and draw more fans. But nobody questioned the game itself when Pete was caught.
Pete Rose did not damage the game's integrity. With no credit to himself, he actually helped it because they acted upon it.

Good Baseball Player != Good Person
The Cosby Show was great.
Thriller is a great album.
Rosemary's Bay, The Pianist, Chinatown, all classics.
And man, Pete could hit.

he was a good second baseman
You know exactly what you are doing, you are not a smart as you think you are. Your veiled insults don't hide your ignorance.
I am extremely excited about this season. I think it is gonna be a lot of fun. I wanna talk baseball not have your world views crammed down my throat constantly.
You two need to take it to private messages.

After Nick Esasky hit .277/.355/.500 with 30 HRs and 108 RBI with the Red Sox in 1989, apparently some people believe that Rose caused Esasky to develop vertigo.
Actually Esasky was a good young first baseman and Rose putting himself in the lineup instead of Esasky in 1985 didn't help Esasky's development as a major leaguer, but it didn't ruin his career either. Vertigo did.
In semi-defense of Rose playing more than he should have in 1985, Marge Schott probably would have forced any manager to have played Rose that season. If I recall correctly, she once said something to the effect that she wanted Rose to break Cobb's career hit record in the final game of the season just to keep his pursuit of the record lasting as long as possible as a gate attraction. It's a wonder that Marge didn't ask Rose to play Schottzie at second base.
