One of the reasons some of the draconian WW2 edicts worked were because they affected everyone, everywhere. It would help if Kansas did what Washington did and California did what Oklahoma did and so forth
That may have helped. I don’t know. I’m willing to admit that early on, draconian measures may have worked. But that’s hardly a sure thing. But given the incomplete knowledge, it was defensible for a time. It really no longer is. Maybe we’d be okay in a socialist democracy, but in a hyper capitalist country with a horrible safety net, people need to work to eat. They need that even before the post office needs funding so votes get counted in November. People shouldn’t have food scarcity in this country. That’s an abomination. And unlike a disease, something which is entirely controllable.

So the media needs to stop scaring young healthy people 24/7 and let any and all businesses that wish to open back up.

Unless, of course, granny is 90 and doesn't want to spend a large chunk of her remaining time in quarantine.

I mean. She’s a grown woman. She can do what she wants.

See, the idea that employment is just “comfort” is where you guys go off the rails. That’s the fatal flaw in your argument. Supply chains being broken is not life or death for just 900,000 people, but millions upon millions.

And if Susie lives with granny? Or what if Susie is immune suppressed (about 3% of the population)?

Beyond that, you still seem to be completely ignorant on germ theory. If the disease that is hyper contagious and none of us is immune to goes widespread, then it finds granny. The disease becomes endemic under those conditions. Maybe if granny's got a lot of money she can keep herself sequestered, but you're basically gifting this disease to 90%+ of the people it can kill under your plan.

So what did essential workers do to avoid it? I don’t think they did. So what? Shut down hospitals and grocery stores? Look there aren’t good options. We got to do something

Um, we limited the pathways for the disease to transmit so the disease didn't become endemic, supply chains didn't collapse and workers at establishments that provide essential goods were better protected from the virus. That thing you constantly bemoan is what works. Unfortunately we've been so half-assed about it we only cut it down from catastrophic to horrible.

There aren't good options, so let's pick the worst option. You're insane.

Why can’t we open up with the knowledge we have now? Why do we need to maintain a recession?

I haven’t bemoaned masking or distancing. What are you talking about?

I do kind of see the sense in peeling back a lot of restrictions whether or not a vaccine is widely available by next spring.

The entire point of lockdowns, quarantines and restrictions was supposedly to flatten the curve so hospitals don’t get overwhelmed. As far as I can tell, most hospitals are completely fine at this point, but we’re still taking a wrecking ball to the economy.

I’m not really sure why at this point we can’t offer COVID unemployment and assistance to the elderly and other high risk and for other people that live with them or work with them by necessity. I think hospitals would be fine at this point if we let young people live relatively normal lives and kept them separated from at risk populations. And by the time a vaccine arrived, we could integrate the high risk back into society once they’re vaccinated.

They’re going to high-pitch scream at you.

And the elderly are fine. They get SS and pensions. Those who don’t have pensions should get a little boost to SS.

I don't know if it's just a refusal to listen or an inability to absorb information, but you're trapped in a loop where you're never going to get it. The knowledge we have now is if we give the disease full reign it will become endemic and make 200,000 dead in less than six months look like a picnic.

You’re an absolute troll at this point. Literally. Nothing more. We know far more now.
