    Re: 2020 MLB Season Thread

After the early struggles with Covid, I've actually been impressed with how MLB has responded and managed to get most teams (Cards are still on the path) back to around the same number of games played. It feels the season finally isn't in day to day peril.

Braves and Reds are the exact opposite of each other. Braves hit with authority and have a pretty solid pen. The rotation is...thin. It wouldn’t surprise me if Glavine came out of the tv booth for a spot start in the next few weeks.

It does appear that a lot of pundits and fans (myself included) overreacted at all the early positive tests. It's still dangerous but I think the league and the teams are doing the best they can.

    Ugh.

Manfred also said the expanded, 16-team postseason is likely to remain beyond 2020, adding that “an overwhelming majority” of owners had already endorsed the concept before the pandemic.
“I think there’s a lot to commend it,” he said.

I get it if everyone can only play 60 games. So unless they're cutting the regular season to 60 games this is really stupid.

I’m excited to see the participation banners all the teams that miss out on the playoffs get to fly.

This is one 2020 rule that absolutely cannot remain. Might as well cut the regular season down to 60 games next year as well. I understood the expanded playoffs for this year but I remember being uneasy when they announced it because I figured this would be the next step.

When a league expands it's playoffs, it rarely if ever goes back to what it was before they expanded. This has been coming since the mid 90s when they adder the one wild card. I thought if they liked one so much, they would love two. I'm just surprised it took them this long to expand it to 5.

I get it in a shortened season because a legitimate argument exists that the sample size isn’t large enough for the cream to rise to the top, so let some more teams in. However, if half the league will make it, what’s the point. Only plus I can think of is that it’ll have a negative impact on tanking

It seems his main goal is to make people think "You know, that Selig guy wasn't actually so bad".
