    Reds pitching is better than the Dodgers, but Reds hitting isn't in the same league

    When was the last time you could say that? I'm guessing the days of Bucky Walters, Paul Derringer, and Johnny Vander Meer. (Late 30's, early 40's)
    Eric Stratton, Rush Chairman. Damn glad to meet ya.

    Except for the fact that the Reds pitching is not better than the Dodgers.

    Depends on which stats you look at.

    According to ERA, Dodgers are better: 3.02 - 3.89
    According to fWAR, Reds are better: 9.5 - 8.3

    Braves have a really good, deep pen and two really good starters (Ian Anderson is becoming a stud before our very eyes).

    And yeah, their offense is very well-rounded 1-9.

    Reds' bats didn't have an answer for them, but the pitching certainly held its own against a really good offense.

    Glad that the knee-jerk reactions to that series are over and we can assess the Reds with clearer heads, because they lost a 3-game playoff series to a very good team.

    @jonmorosi
    NEWS: Adam Duvall (oblique) replaced by Johan Camargo on @Braves roster. Duvall will be ineligible for World Series should Atlanta advance.
    Update: The Braves have allowed 6 runs in 6 postseason games.

    It wasn't just the two game series. They were shut out 7 times in 60 games. The highest BA in the regular line-up was .255. Pretty much everybody on the infield is playing out of position. They have 4 DH types in the every day line-up, and now their CY Young pitcher is going to walk. My clearer head assessment is still that some changes are needed beyond just filling holes.

    Glad to see baseball with fans in the stands again! We'll see how excited people are about going to the World Series, as I could definitely see myself making the five hour drive from Wichita if tickets aren't too expensive.

    Reds had the 2nd best ERA in the league that season and (by a comfortable distance) the best ERA+ and pitching WAR. Also gave up the fewest runs the league. But, sure, the team that spent every single day of the season in 1st place and won a World Series secretly sucked. Let's roll with that.

    Personally, I think Kershaw not being able to go today is the best thing to happen to the Dodgers this post season.

    I am starting to realize we just ran into a buzzsaw at exactly the wrong time. The Braves have been the best team in baseball during the playoffs to this point.....maybe it does not last, but it has been impressive.
