Sonny Gray could return from IL and start in the next series vs. Brewers.
Trevor Bauer could start on short rest for his next start depending on how things look after this weekend. So it's possible he makes 3 more starts this year.

With Bauer lobbying for a four man rotation for now and in the future, is there any other mlb team that’s used one for the whole season?

Wade Miley is throwing a simulated game this afternoon. If all goes well, he should be ready to return to #Reds in a potential bullpen role.
Tyler Thornburg had Tommy John surgery this week, along with Matt Bowman.

Reckless speculation but I wonder if the IL stint for Gray would have been handled differently had they known the Reds would hop back in the race.

Will be interesting to see what the reports are about his pen which I believe was today. Supposedly, how he felt during it, and how he comes in the day after will determine when the sun will shine again at GABP. Which probably will be Tues, given he is a pen two days before a start guy. Should know tomorrow.

W-L 2-2 3.97 ERA 1.13 Whip 4 QS's K/9 rate of 11.12 (wow), but still needs to clean up the walks BB/9 subpar at 3.77.
But I'm liking what I'm seeing in this kid.

If I were a Reds owner I’d ask Dick Williams why, for $160 million payroll, I get the lowest BA and fewest base hits in the major leagues. I’d demand a deep, detailed answer.
I would not accept that it was just bad luck. .213 is not merely bad luck. Other than T Stephenson’s few at bats, nobody is hitting over .268, not one .270 hitter.
The team has almost no ability to score runs without homers.
Late season hot streak notwithstanding, this is a colossal failure. With this pitching, Reds should not be in such a tenuous position to make expanded, 16-team playoffs.

Don’t leave out coaching. The pitching on this team is well coached.
Also, xFIP would say Tyler has been a bit lucky on the home run front. Needs to improve GB rate somewhat going forward. 31% GBs is dangerously low for a GABP pitcher.
