Teams will be playing two types of games, each game requiring a different type of team to win. Both both types of games will count the same. That is unfair.
We’ve done it with the DH and no DH for years. I think it will be ok for 50 games.

Bummer to hear. I was hoping Joey could get in nearly all 60 games with some decent stats. Obviously, he's getting older and we have less time, as fans, to watch Votto play. He's closer to being another memorable Red that gave us enjoyment watching him play.

Right there with you. Was just thinking about how it’d be great to see Votto peel off 3 hits over these two 7-inning games.

C Trent specified that this is the IL, not the 10-day list. Gives me some optimism that perhaps it’s a minor ailment. In the same hand, it gives me pause that perhaps this is COVID symptom related... Hopefully we’ll have word sooner than later, but word travels slowly in Cincy.

I don't think you can go to the indefinite IL without it being related to Covid. i.e. Positive Covid test, Covid close contact or symptoms related to Covid. After all it's called the Covid related IL.

Joey Votto self-reported symptoms this morning, according to a source, but he has not tested positive for COVID-19. It's raining in Detroit, but they're still scheduled to play a doubleheader. #Reds

This team's secret? Tons of spin
    By David Adler

The Reds are one of the top strikeout pitching staffs in the Major Leagues right now. They're one of four teams, along with the Indians, Rays and D-backs, to have already reached the 100-K mark in 2020. But there's one big way the Cincinnati staff stands out: spin.

Reds pitchers are spinning the ball the most, on the pitches where it really counts -- their fastballs and curveballs.

High spin on a four-seamer is what gives you the "rising fastball" effect, and a rising fastball is more likely to get a hitter to swing and miss. A high-spin curveball tends to get more movement, and more break on your curve is good if you want to get strikeouts with it, and also keep hitters from getting it into the air where they can do damage.

The Reds have amassed a stable of high-spin arms, and they sure look like they're targeting and developing these pitchers for a reason. Their pitchers' ability to harness their high-spin, high-movement arsenals is certainly playing a big part in Cincinnati's emergence as a strikeout staff.

Bell's update on Moustakas: “He got hit good in the arm. I do believe it is muscular. Temporarily that tightens up. It was impossible to do anything. The good news is if it’s not near a bone, it will be a shorter recovery.” #reds

A few team stats as of nine games. I’ll do a fuller recap at the 15 game, first quarter pole.

Reds offense - solid team OPS, fifth best in NL, at .772. Team lags in BA with .226 but low BABIP, .253. Hits started falling in second game yesterday. Reds offense BB/K rate is second best in league, positive for new hitting coach.

Reds team ERA is 3.91, seventh in NL, with starters at 2.77 and relievers at 6.91. Again, great K/BB numbers, 105 Ks, 22 BBs. Three top starters combined with 57 Ks and 8 BBs in two starts each.

Fangraphs Def has Reds -2.9 defensively, although two key positions, Galvis at short and Senzel in CF, both positive. Fangraphs baserunning stat has Reds slightly positive 0.8.

Not sure if all stats engines fully updated this morning, so forgive any error, pretty sure I got the most up-to-date numbers.

If not for two misplaced pitches from Lorenzen against the Tigers this team is 6-3 right now.
