The MLBPA refused to play in a bubble.

It was beyond obvious it was the only way to have a season. I hate Manfred and think the owners are terrible, but this is 100% on the selfishness of the players and the MLBPA. And it’s pretty obvious why they refused the bubble based on the marlins taking a team trip to the strip club.
What would you say.....ya do here?

And they still don’t wear the masks as much as they should and forget about distancing outside. I am glad Manfred called them out.
Do you know what would have been nice? If Manfred acted like the other commissioners and demanded more safety protocol for the players before starting the season. Now he’s stuck trying to put the toothpaste back into the tube.

He did and the entire world jumped on him and said he was evil for making demands. I’m sorry but the players are at fault for this. They refused to play in a bubble.

The other commissioners had no problem making these demands. Their top priority was making sure everyone involved was safe. Manfred’s top priority was to not pay the players for a full season.

Other commissioners worked to develop strict protocols and demanded they be met or else shut down the season. Manfred developed new rules for extra innings and expanded playoffs.

The players are clearly at fault here. But Manfred is not blame free.

I absolutely am not absolving Manfred of being horrible. I blame the players for this, though. Right off the bat the league wanted to do bubbles and the players would not do it.

When negotiation started on this, they were talking about over 5 months of a season and playoffs. I am confident players in any league would have fought back against a 4 month long bubble.

But we ended up with a two month season plus playoffs. Maybe the players would have agreed to it then, We don’t know because Manfred never demanded it.

It all starts with the boss, the commissioner. I am producing a project right now. I set down the rules and protocols for Covid. If my employees refused to agree to them, I would just shut down the project. If I agreed to go through with the project without these protocols to appease my employees, and something went wrong, I am the one to blame, I am the one responsible.

One could argue the MLBPA was the boss in this situation.

The point is that if Manfred truly cared about safety, he would have demanded better protocols or shut down the season. That is what a boss does.

All medical protocols had to be approved by MLBPA too

Correct. And if they refused to agree to safe ones, don’t start the season. But we all know why the both sides wanted to start the season

Rumor on twitter (Jerry Hairston Jr.) was the Marlins went to a club and the Cardinals to a casino. Just a rumor but smoke...

I'm no fan or defender of Rob Manfred, but what does C. Trent think he's doing as far as being a sports writer when it comes to tweets like this?

His virtue signaling game is strong.

(It wasn’t even original - Manfred teed that up and many obliged.)

Quite frankly C Trent is just a horrible writer. I can't believe anybody would pay money to read the dribble he writes. I hate Rob Manfred too but it's not like he told the Cardinals to go to casino or the Marlins to go a bar.
