Re: Cardinals-Brewers game postponed due to Cardinals' players testing positive

Do the cardinals have other guys on the DL for non Covid reasons? Is this delay giving those guys time to get healthy? Other teams don't get that. OTOH, the Cardinals may be pretty rusty by the time they start up again. Pretty complex set of things to think about. I think there has to be some limit to the number of games that can be made up for practicality reasons. There are no fans tickets at stake, so I say, pick a reasonable number of games that they can make up and forfeit the rest. 6 Games is 10% of the schedule. I'd say allow them to make up the first six cancelled and forfeits after that.

Re: Cardinals-Brewers game postponed due to Cardinals' players testing positive

There was talk (I believe by Manfred) about deferring to winning percentage if teams have different numbers of games played. Someone here said they should take unplayed games and split them 50/50, which would constitute adding wins. It would be more fair to me to count them all as losses, so if you win more in 55 than another team wins in 60, you're the champs, but otherwise no. Not sure about counting forfeits, this would also be adding wins for teams that never played a game.

It seems like they're taking a wait and see approach, which probably makes the most sense two weeks in. I'm sure the desire is for every team to have 60 played. It's already wonky with the seven-inning doubleheaders.

Not to say that this is the fault of the Cardinals either necessarily, but there should be some sort of penalty (forfeited games most likely) for this.
And I would honestly say the same thing about the Reds if they were in this same predicament. It's not fair to other teams.

There is no evidence to support the casino accusation. But there is evidence that they did other stupid stuff, like go fishing and golfing.

Nothing wrong with fishing or golfing - there is something wrong with fishing or golfing and not practicing good social distancing protocols at the same time.

We all know how this ends-- the Cardinals have a better winning percentage than our Reds by .001 percent and they go to the playoffs and then win the WS because of a missed call on a play Molina is involved in that goes the Cardinals way.

Lol on the last paragraph, sadly, too accurate.

But leaving their hotel to do any social activity is stupid, imo. It’s why it was prohibited by other leagues, and now is prohibited by MLB. We all stayed in for over a month, and with no reward of playing MLB baseball for it. They can stay in a four start hotel with room service.

You left out the part about how the COVID needs, the Cards brought in someone from outside the 60 man to fill out the roster. No one had ever heard of this person before but they slash 360/460/660/1220 while throwing 28 innings of scoreless relief.

Yeah, but there is a little bit of unfairness about it. The Cardinals aren't having to play short handed. They get a reprieve and can make it up. I know nobody wants to go what they are going through, but the Reds had to play without Votto and Moose. They didn't get to make it up later when everybody was back. Doesn't seem right to me.

It’s all based on player safety. If it ends up benefitting some team, so be it.

The Cards will have to play a bunch of double headers. There is no advantage of doing that.

A weekend of baseball with no Cardinals AND no Cubs?

I can see a silver lining in that.

That's the feeling I am getting with Mikolas already out gives him more time to recover and by the time they are cleared to play who knows maybe DeJong and Molina would be back by them. Seems like is benefitting them compared to us who didn't even have anyone with Covid yet missed several important games.

That will be 12 straight Cardinals games that will be postponed. That has to be some kinda record.

    https://wxguys.ssec.wisc.edu/2014/08...ng-rained-out/

Last week was the 105th anniversary of a most unusual baseball record as on Aug. 18, 1909, the Philadelphia Phillies endured their 10th consecutive rainout. This rainy day was in Philadelphia, but the team had just returned from a “western” trip that began in St. Louis, moved to Cincinnati and then on to Pittsburgh. Two separate storms were apparently responsible for the remarkable streak of bad weather-luck.

I think the St. Louis franchise should be contracted. They had an ok run and owner says he doesn't make much money off of the team anyway.

I'm sure Montreal or Buffalo will be a better replacement in 2021 as the fans in either of those cities will be much more knowledgeable about the game and those franchises won't have a history of bad sportsmanship.
