    MLB New Enhanced Protocols

    @JesseRogersESPN

    1.Teams were sent memos today outlining the new and enhanced protocols which are effective immediately. They include the risk of being 'prohibited from further participation in the 2020 season' for repeated or flagrant violation of said protocols.

    2.The refusal to wear face covering when required to and reminded to do so qualifies for prohibition. The league will send written warnings prior to any action taking place.

    3.Other measures effective immediately:
    -Face coverings required EVERYWHERE. Dugouts, hotels, bullpens, etc. All except field of play
    -Surgical masks are required on planes and buses. No cloth coverings.

    4.When at home, players are prohibited from going to bars, malls or any large gatherings.
    -Players must get permission from their compliance officer before leaving the hotel
    -Clubs must reduce the numbers in their traveling parties to personnel 'essential' to playing the game

    It’s weird because every mask that I see considered “surgical” states on the box “not for medical use.”

    Overdue, but a smart move, imo. Hopefully this will limit the infections.

    MLB memo: We recognize that these changes place additional burdens and restrictions on players and staff. But if we desire to play, they are necessary to limit infections and, if someone does test positive, to keep the virus from spreading.

    As with any process, learn from your mistakes and apply the corrections going forward. Rinse and repeat. You never get it all completely correct with your first pass on trying to solve problems. Iteratively solve each problem as it becomes apparent. After a while, you’ll have a good solution.

    I get that MLB is reacting to lots of bad press and trying to avoid cancellations. They are probably under pressure from various officials. But the "players must get permission from their compliance officer before leaving the hotel" is over the top. If they feel they need to enact this, then they should take their own medicine. Owners, staff, the FO, and everyone in the commissioners office should need to get permission from the player's union anytime they go anywhere except home and office. What good for the goose is good for the gander right?

    I live in Toledo, the Mud Hens players are even easier to pick out downtown, full masks walking around outside playing Pokémon Go.
