Oakland A's Bench Coach In Hot Water

Ryan Christenson allegedly caught giving a nazi salute while giving elbows to A's players. Whatever his excuse, in any climate, that is a gesture you want to avoid giving even accidentally.

He should step down reich now.

Looks like the player fixed it for him. And he realized that he did whatever it was they were doing wrong. But let's all make sure to be outraged.

That looks like it might have been a screw up on his part and then he was making light of how stupid it was.

You would hope so. Just a daft thing to do and opening yourself up to a twitter pile-on.

Yep, he knew it was dumb and I like how one of his players helped him with that.

A public apology and a week of humiliation should be enough punishment, though.

Somebody (I think the Blue Jays radio PBP guy) said on Twitter he should be banned for life. Talk about overreactions.

I imagine the A's front office will be calling him in for a chat about his behaviour on the grounds that it's not a good look for them and MLB will probably be the same. A warning should be enough. It's a stupid, silly mistake not a political gesture. The idea of him being thrown out of his career for that is just ridiculous.

I think it would be good for all of us to learn how to discern when something is offensive, and when a person needs to be given the benefit of the doubt. Christianson falls into the latter category. Nothing in that context looks like he was making a political statement.

Banned from giving high fives for life, yes.

I have no real opinion either way on this. We don’t know what happened or what’s in his heart. Either way, I can see all sides and I don’t lean toward any one. I have watched the video and that is all I need to say in regards to this subject. Thank you for the discussion and I appreciate all the posts so far.
