That was disappointing; I was hoping for Neil Gaiman.

Good article, even though I was expecting dragons.

#Reds' Nick Castetllanos now has until midnight at Friday to decide about his option with the team for 2021, FWIW

    Re: Will Castellanos stay?

According to Spotrac Nick gets $14 million for 2021. Followed by two more years at $16 million each. Then a mutual option year with a $2 million buy out. (There are some salary deferrals.)

The problem with Nick leaving is the overall package, which might be hard for him to duplicate right now.

He could gamble that he can get more than $14 million as a FA for one year, 2021. Then he takes his chances on another LTC starting 2022. Seems unlikely, especially since he has another player opt out after next season.

Yeah, he’d be crazy to opt out now. Best case for the Reds is he has a monster 2021 and opts out after.

Before the season, I'd have said no - however with all the craziness going on and speculation that salaries are going down, I'm thinking he might stay.

IF the reds' brass wants him to stay (and who knows if they really do) they should basically be "recruiting" castellanos and telling him things he wants to hear. ("we're committed to you as the right fielder; you won't DH if you don't want to," etc.)

I think Castellanos stays because of the financial status throughout baseball. And therefore I think Disco and Galvis are gone because the Reds need to offer Bauer their money.

Nick will be here another year. Too much uncertainty.

If I was his agent I would absolutely tell him to stay. (and to plan to opt out after 2021).

Just to gauge current economic conditions, no team was willing to absorb Brad Hand for 1 year $10m, and he is still a dominant reliever.

Nick would be absolutely crazy to walk away from $48m guaranteed.

It is past time for Congress to reexamine MLB's anti-trust exemption.

Mr. Hand will have his revenge.

    I'm not a system player. I am a system.

I don't even know if he has to make an announcement. If he does nothing he's still in the fold....
