    yeah, i remember when the reds first hired him and started to cut george grande back, i was pretty excited. but thom just grates on you after a while.

    getting rid of grande was a good move (just never felt like he cared whether the reds won or lost) but basically replacing him with thom was not.

    they need to find a good PBP guy for tv and then give jeff brantley as many opportunities as possible to be the color commentator on tv. he's so good in that role. brantley is not good on radio, even though he's gotten much better. but he's excellent as a color broadcaster on tv.

    I agree with this, but The Creeper is also my favorite member of the Reds broadcast team. Unfortunately, they have two great color commentators and no PBP guys. Maybe they can trade one of them for announcer prospects?

    Brantley works great on the radio as a color guy. They just need Thrall to take all nine innings of PBP. I don’t know why they’re holding that weird arrangement over. Thrall has his own shortcomings (boring and self-admittedly unfunny), but he’s inoffensive to the ears and calls a good game.

    Welsh is the star of the TV broadcast, and Jim Day lets him run the show. I don’t mind that partnership one bit.

    welsh has slipped a lot. brantley is far better than him as a TV color guy IMO.

    As someone who agreed with suspending/firing Brennaman for what he said, I say good for him for getting another job calling baseball games.

    And that's what it comes down to, really.

    He could have just been on vacation. I still wouldn't want him back in the booth for the Reds.

    Fact is, everything from the chemistry of the broadcasters, to the quality of information provided, both factually and anecdotal, ALL improved when Thom was gone.

    It was addition by subtraction.

    The booth loosened up so much after Thom left. Between Day, Welsh/Cowboy, and Lecure it sounded like a bunch of friends watching the game sometimes. Plus the pitching commentary was really great.

    At this point I wouldn't change anything. I think what we have works.
