What to do w Joey Votto

Still has 3 years left on his deal after 2020 - 75 Mill, Then a 4th year club option w/ 7M buyout.

So, the club is still into him for 82 Million sunk and 3 years of contracted service remaining.

He does not do one thing well on the baseball field anymore.

He can not field, run or throw

He can not hit. He does not create runs. Hit for power or average and is a giant black hole in the lineup.

His OPS is declining 4 years running. His SLG% over his last 300+ Games is .408! FOUR ZERO EIGHT

His SLG .394 so far this year, with 5 xbh in 20 games.

We have all seen how the Reds mis-handle legacy and long terms players, so this situation is going to be an unmitigated disaster. I understand this is a likely controversial take, but the Reds need to DFA him and move on after this season.

He is losing them more games than helping win, and it's going to only get worse. Time to say goodbye, sorry for wasting 5 of his best years in a never-ending rebuild, but that was the reds choice to bungle.

He has to go, ive watched a lot of baseball in 32 years - Joey Votto is a really bad baseball player now.

Can he not keep batting leadoff with his .370 OBP?

Sure as long was he quits making errors at 1B. His dWAR is already -0.5

    First, I'll take a 109 RC+.

Second, this is what we signed up for. When you pay your star player, you do so knowing that the back-end of the deal is going to be painful.

Yea, he needs to clean that up. Otherwise he's bound to hit a little better, still has an elite eye for the strike zone, and gets on base. He doesn't have to carry the team anymore, just set the table.

He's going to get paid no matter what right?

    Where should he go?

    Who should replace him?

I mean... 32 years, you must know the answer right?

it's sad watching a great player lose it. he's not even close to the same guy who was elite at his craft.

He’d be dfa. So who cares where he went? Lol

Reds must be the first team in the history of sports to have to replace a bad player I guess

They probably would be the first team to DFA a HOF player with a .370 OB% after 80 plate appearances in a season whilst eating 80 million bucks

I'd say getting on base at a .370 clip is doing something really well.
...the 2-2 to Woodsen and here it comes...and it is swung on and missed! And Tom Browning has pitched a perfect game! Twenty-seven outs in a row, and he is being mobbed by his teammates, just to the thirdbase side of the mound.

Since 2010 these are the Reds with 200 PA in a season and at least a .370 OB%
