Here's to hoping this thread leads Votto to go on a Winker-like tear.

If it does, please start a thread about Suarez next.

When you have a losing record you get these reactionary threads....
99% of all numbers only tell 33% of the story so when looking at the numbers remember that numbers is plural...

    For 6 consecutive years. Yeah!

This isn’t reactionary. The writing is on the wall and he’s only getting worse

Costing the team and a drag on winning.

Im sure it’s gonna magically be better in a year. Or 2. Or 3.

I think we could do better than negative production.

sarcasm? because i don't think anyone is talking just about votto's 21 games this season. it's the last 3 years combined. he appears washed-up, both at the plate and in the field. large sample size we are talking about at this point. certainly not reactionary.

reactionary was people ripping on winker after 5 games this season.

He does seem to be sliding into Padres-era Brian Giles mode where fans thought they were getting a power hitter and instead all he does is walk. Having said that, I agreed with the extension when it happened and he has overall produced extremely well.

The time to ask this question was after the 2016 season when he was performing like an MVP and would have returned a couple of top prospects in addition to unloading his money. The team was tanking anyway. Most of Redszone did not agree.

I feel like these next four years will really help distinguish between different kinds of Reds fans.

Votto's in a decline. He's 36 and getting old every single day. It's going to be painful for all involved, including Joey.

Some fans will accept the decline, remember the absolute star that he was and hope for the best.

Others will gnash their teeth, scream and howl, blame Dick Williams, excoriate Walt Jocketty and begin hating Joey Votto.

Be the good fan. Understand aging happens and signing stars comes at a cost.

At least his feelings aren't hurt.

His absolute worst season (2019) was still league average at the plate. Hopefully he can at least do that through the end of the deal. He's earned his money for sure.

I don't know about fans of other teams, but "blame the best players" is absolutely embedded in the culture of Reds fans. Frankly, it sucks.

I don't feel like anything that he does individually on the field over the next four years is going to enhance is HOF chances. But a World Series title (appearance) or two can't hurt. The Reds should just go ahead and win the next two or three, for Joey.

This is hilarious - so amazing to hear the 2 camps.

I want votto off the team, cause they will be better without him, and for him to get his money and that's that.

No hate. But, they are worse with him on the field, and its going to continue getting worse.

How about this? I want the reds to be competitive, something they havent been in 6 years, and rarely over 25 years.

Playing a terrible player because of the money owed will only hurt the team. no one cares about vottos feelings lol

He's not a Hall of famer, so who cares? He deff is a Reds HOFer, right next to Dunner.

It's the absolute worst thing about rooting for the Reds and it's practically de rigueur
