Reds activate R Stephenson, DFA Cody Reed

    According to Rosecrans tweet.

    Disagree with DFA’ing Reed.

Someone will fix Reed, unless he hurts himself.

    It happens all the time

Agree. I guess Reds really like Nate Jones.

Sometimes lefty relievers take awhile. Reds only have one remaining in the pen.

Reed had turned it around a bit in August hadn’t he? Weird move

Reed's 27-years-old, been the organization five years and has a 5.44 ERA in 124 IP. Doesn't feel like it's going to happen here. For Cody's sake, I hope he fulfills his promise elsewhere.

There is a real good case for Nate Jones but it did feel like Reed was on borrowed time and if it wasn’t for this time it would have been for Strop’s return. Would not be surprised to see him turn it around elsewhere but it wasn’t gonna happen here.

I still put blame on Bryan Price at least in part for how things went. Of course I don’t know about the behind the scenes discussions, maybe the real story would exonerate him, but at least publicly he was the guy saying “He belongs up here, we’re not sending him back down” when it was clear he wasn’t ready for prime time after getting his soul destroyed in two straight starts against the Cubs. It just defied explanation to me. He seemed shell shocked after that, though obviously a good major leaguer should eventually let their talent take back over and while Reed has flashes after that he could never put it back together.

Bad choice. Reed has 2.45 ERA in August. 5 straight scoreless appearances. 6 innings of consecutive shutout ball. Will probably be traded. Will never clear waivers.

I don’t think Reed is a big loss or anything but he actually seems to be pitching well for the moment, unlike most of the rest of the bullpen

Really not worried Reed is going to turn a corner and be a consistent producer elsewhere.

Nate Jones’ ERA and FIP are both over 6. The FIP is closer to 7. He hasn’t pitched a full MLB season since 2016.

I’m not sure why he is so favored or what’s the case for him.

For all his ups and downs, Reed seemed like a better bet. Reed missed most of last season with injury and hasn’t had that much experience in relief. I would have stuck with Cody.

I'm OK with it. I think Thornberg has pitched himself into Reed's spot even though he is a RHP

Probably worth noting that Derek Johnson, Boddy and company definitely have a type (big spin). Without looking at the spin numbers, I suspect Reed isn't a guy that fits their program especially well.

has't the bullpen kind of steadied recently? I feel like it is not the absolute dumpster fire it was a couple weeks ago.

That figures the Reds didn't even have to make a move like that.. They could have simply sent Tyler Mahle to the alternate camp and called him up as the 29th man for the doubleheader on Saturday. Then turn around and do it again the next Friday in Pittsburgh For that double header. When they passed out brains I'm not sure what a Reds front office was.

Could be a message to guys like Reed. It may not be the most sensible move but it sure is nice to witness them cut bait on guys who continually fail to meet expectations.
