"To honor Tom Seaver, every Mets player will put dirt on the right knee of their pants legs today, symbolic of Seaver’s iconic drop and drive delivery."

Tom Seaver entered big league baseball with expectations of greatness. And by the end of his 20-year career, he had exceeded them all.

I wonder if the Reds will add a patch or black armband to the uniform to remember Seaver. (I'm sure the Mets will.)
Eric Stratton, Rush Chairman. Damn glad to meet ya.

I’d like to see a red 41 on the sleeve with that block font from the 70’s with a black circle in memory.
I hope Fox will reair the two part documentary on him.
My first game ever to Riverfront was as a 10 year old in 77. So I was so privileged to catch Tom a few times in the 2 or 3 trips we made from SoKY each year.
Wasn’t he 14-2 in 1981 also? Sad, but thankfully no more pain.

Years ago, I remember hearing the late Joe Nuxhall interviewing Johnny Bench on one of his pre-game or post-game shows. This was before Tom Seaver came to the Reds.
Bench talked about how Seaver had what was called an “exploding” fastball. It was an optical illusion where as the pitch got to the plate, the batter’s eye had difficulty adjusting to the speed and movement, and it appeared to “explode.” Made it much more difficult to make contact.
It might have been interesting to see Seaver pitch with all of today’s technology, measuring spin rates, etc.

“We know we're better than this ... but we can't prove it.” — Tony Gwynn
to think that the reds gave up Pat Zachry- dodger killer
Yes it was. Unbelievable the Reds were getting one of the best pitchers in baseball at that time. I thought the Reds would be invincible after that. Didn't turn out that way but it was fun watching him pitch for the Reds as he still had some good seasons left. RIP Tom Seaver, one of my all time favorite players.

I was 19 when we got Seaver and was going on 42 when we got Junior. I'm sure there are personal feelings that made the Seaver trade more exciting but all in all, free agency was in its infancy and the greatest players in the game jumping from team to team wasn't near as common place back then. That made the Seaver trade more surreal to me.
